1. Stone arch of Charco Manso

This was one of the most beautifully shaped stone arches in El Hierro. Located in the far North of the island it is one of the remotest stone arches here. But definitely one of the most beautifully shaped ones.

It is better to come here more on the low tide side as the waves could get too dangerous for you to get a closer look at the arch. It has a beautiful natural pool next to it and makes for a great photo or a spot to relax and take in the beauty of nature.

2. El Roque de La Bonanza stone arch

Stone arches in El Hierro - El Roque de La Bonanza stone arch

Roque de La Bonanza has to be the most famous rock formation in El Hierro. It is a distinctive natural volcanic rock formation near the coast in the East of El Hierro. To some, it may even look like an animal-shaped rock formation.

If you come here during low tide you can get down to the water level (there is a small path down from the road that leads to the water). If you come during high tide then it still will be a beautiful view up from the coast.

Location: Roque de La Bonanza · Parking place · Viewpoint from the coast

3. Arco de las Puntas

Stone arches in El Hierro - Arco de las Puntas

Arco de las Puntas is a long, beautiful volcanic rock arch that stretches over a small beach in Las Puntas. It is located in a beautiful area with little coves and different volcanic formations that you should definitely check out!

If you come here during low tide you can get down inside a volcanic tube (there are stairs leading down from the walking path) to a small beach and take a photo of the arch from below.

Location: Arco de las Puntas · Parking lot

4. Arches and archways at Charco Azul

Charco Azul is one of the best places to go for a swim in El Hierro. This area is full of smaller and bigger natural volcanic pools and is very accessible at the same time.

This place really doesn’t disappoint because there are also arches and archways you can check out while spending time at the ocean.

There is a smaller and lower arch that is located more into the ocean and will be accessible only during low tide.

And then there is this huge archway that might be accessible also during high tide as it is located closer to the coast. Definitely check out these spots while you are in the area!

Location: Charco Azul · Parking lot

5. Arco de Piedra at La Maceta

Stone arches in El Hierro - Arco de Piedra at La Maceta

Arco de Piedra is a beautifully shaped volcanic stone arch next to Mirador Punta del Pozo near the natural volcanic pools of La Maceta.

There is a parking lot at the volcanic pools to leave your car at and a man-made walking path to get to the viewpoint. You will see the arch very well from the viewpoint as it is right next to it.

Location: Arco de Piedra · Mirador Punta del Pozo · Parking lot

6. Punta del Pozo arch

Hidden right below the viewpoint of Punta del Pozo is another volcanic stone archway. It is only accessible during low tide and even then you can’t take such a photo without getting wet.

In order to even see this archway and get to this hidden stone arch you will have to descend to the beach next to Mirador del Punta de Pozo. We descended right between the Arco de Piedra and the viewpoint – there is a bit easier route where you can climb down.

When you climb down to the beach, you will have Arco de Piedra on your left and this Punta del Pozo arch on your right. This is one of my favorite stone arches in El Hierro as there is a distinct rock formation in the ocean that you can see through this stone arch. Looks really cool!

Location: Punta del Pozo · Parking lot

7. Arco de la Tosca

Stone arches in El Hierro - Arco de la Tosca

Arco de la Tosca is probably the longest stone arch you will see in El Hierro. It is also one of the best places to watch the sunset as the arch is located on the West Coast.

It is also very easy to get to as you can drive a car right to the coast. There is a parking lot followed by a short path to the arch. It is truly magnificent!

8. Giant arches at Punta de la Sal

Punta de la Sal is a unique area on the West coast of El Hierro. It is full of unique volcanic rock formations including sea caves, arches, and many other different formations. There is a path along the coastline for anyone to enjoy this beautiful scenery.

It is amongst the best spots to watch the sunset as well. I really recommend grabbing some snacks and drinks, going before the sunset, and checking out the area followed by the sunset at the end of the day.

9. Archways at Charco los Sargos

Stone arches in El Hierro - Archways at Charco los Sargos

Charco de los Sargos is another amazing swimming spot in El Hierro. And also, it is another amazing spot to enjoy different volcanic rock formations like volcanic pools, caves, and arches.

If I had to choose a place to go for a swim, I would definitely choose this one as the volcanic pool is deep and big enough even during low tide (others lose a lot of water during low tide). Plus you can explore the caves and arches while swimming.

Location: Charco los Sargos · Parking lot

10. Archway at Playa del Verodal

Stone arches in El Hierro - Archway at Playa del Verodal

Obviously, this small archway is not a natural stone arch. However, if you ever go to Playa del Verodal (and you should!) then this spot is perfect for a romantic sunset or a lunch date with a picnic. So I had to include it in the list!

If you sit in the archway you might see right below you a little cove where the waves of the Atlantic come crashing in and shoot in the air. This little spot is a nice hidden gem in El Hierro.

Location: Playa del Verodal · Parking lot · Archway

Happy exploring!

El Hierro is like a hidden gem of the Canary Islands. It is a small island and many might think that there is nothing to see however we were pleasantly surprised.

The island has dramatic cliffs, incredible viewpoints, rock formations, impressive hiking routes, beautiful beaches, and, above all, delicious local quesadillas.
