Valldemossa is one of the most picturesque villages in Mallorca. It is known for its narrow cobblestone streets, traditional Mallorcan architecture, and such landmarks as the historic Carthusian monastery and the Palace of King Sancho.

Looking back, I think Valldemossa is my favorite village in Mallorca. It has the most scenic mountain views of Serra de Tramuntana, it has charming Mallorcan architecture, and the perfect amount of things to do there.

For the best views of the village stop by Mirador de Valldemossa on the road MA-1110 and walk to Sa Miranda Des Lledoners viewpoint inside the village. For the most beautiful streets check out Carrer Rectoria (and its nearby streets).

One of the must-do things to do in Valldemossa is to try the local pastry Coca de Patata. We went to Pastisseria Ca’n Molinas, a traditional local bakery that has been around for about 100 years.

The liveliest place in Valldemossa is Plaรงa Cartoixa Square – this is where life happens. There are outdoor restaurants, boutique shops, cafes, and a view of the former monastery. The best place to hang out and people-watch!

One of the most beautiful villages in Mallorca

Cala Figuera and especially its picturesque port is my favorite coastal village in Mallorca. This charming fishing village is a hidden gem and often gets overlooked by the scenic mountain villages but I’m here to tell you to definitely visit this place!

Cala Figuera is known for its coastal charm with its narrow bay, azure waters, and white boats as well as the white fishermen’s houses lined at the waterโ€™s edge with pine trees hanging above.

It is the picture-perfect postcard village with Instagrammable spots in every corner! There’s even a path along the coastline named the ‘Photography Route’ where you can take lots of photos of the charming bay.

We visited the village in the morning and it was the perfect place to go for a walk along the coastline right by all the boats parked in the bay. It was a clear day so the colors of the crystal-clear waters were popping!

We walked along the small waterfront pathway connecting two bays from one bay to the next and then back. As you can see from the many beautiful photos, it was a successful morning walk, haha!

Port of Cala Figuera is the epitome of a charming village! I especially loved the white houses and boat garages with colorful doors and window shutters – a typical sight you can see in many bays and ports in Mallorca.

Fornalutx is an idyllic village nestled in the heart of the Serra de Tramuntana mountain range just a few kilometers from Sรณller. Because of the short distance between these two places, some travelers even choose to hike from Sรณller to Fornalutx.

This Mallorcan village is often regarded as one of the most beautiful villages in Spain due to its rustic charm, well-preserved traditional Mallorcan architecture, and dramatic mountain landscapes. We spent a whole day exploring Fornalutx and I loved it!

The origins of the authentic mountain village of Fornalutx date back to medieval times when the territory was under the rule of Moorish forces but later in the 13th century it was reconquered by the Spaniards.

There are no famous tourist attractions in this village and the best thing to do in Fornalutx is just wander around the charming village and explore the narrow streets, picturesque stairways, lemon groves, and spectacular views of the mountains.

4. Sรณller

The beauty of the Sierra de Tramuntana also lies in its charming towns, like Sรณller

Sรณller is a charming town nestled between the Serra de Tramuntana mountains near the northwest coast of Mallorca, Spain. This small town is known for its 16th-century Church of Sant Bartomeu and its famous vintage tram.

Sรณller church is one of the bucket list places to visit in Mallorca. The intricate stone carvings, large arches, and a blend of Gothic and modernist elements is a masterpiece by the architect Joan Rubiรณ i Bellver, a student of the famous Antoni Gaudรญ.

Visiting this iconic symbol is one of the must-do things to do in Sรณller. We also visited the inside of the church to see its vaulted ceilings and beautiful stained glass windows. I especially loved the massive rose windows.

The medieval church has become a symbol of Sรณller and has been ever-present in many cultural and historical events in the town for centuries. Even today people gather in the main square to eat, drink, and socialize with the church quietly overlooking it all.

While visiting Sรณller, don’t forget to taste one of their legendary orange ice creams made of oranges grown in their own valley. Due to their sweet flavor, oranges grown in Sรณller Valley have been favored by French aristocrats for many centuries.

I also recommend window shopping on The Moon Street which is the main shopping street in Sรณller. We didn’t buy anything but we stopped by one of the charming cafรฉs La Confianรงa and got an ensaรฏmada to go.

Half a day will be enough to explore the main sights in Sรณller. If you can stay for lunch I recommend finding a spot in the main square, Plaรงa de la Constituciรณ, in one of their outdoor restaurants. The iconic vintage tram passes right through the square.

The old town of Alcรบdia is the most beautiful old town in Mallorca. The ancient town is known for its well-preserved medieval walls surrounding the old town, traditional Mallorcan architecture, and the popular weekly market.

As soon as I entered the old town, I felt like I had traveled back in time!

The old town captivates you with its massive medieval city gates, narrow streets, cobblestone squares, boutique shops, and quaint cafes. We have visited Alcรบdia many times and it is as charming as it gets!

Alcรบdia boasts several landmarks like the 14th-century Sant Jaume d’Alcรบdia Church as well as the ruins of the ancient Roman city Pollentia. But one of my favorite things to do in Alcรบdia was walking around the medieval walls surrounding the town.

On Tuesdays and Sundays, Alcรบdia turns into one of those Mediterranean trading hubs you see in the movies. The whole town comes alive with street stalls selling local crafts, fresh produce, and Mallorcan delicacies. We absolutely loved this town!

Deiร , one of the most beautiful towns in the Serra de Tramuntana mountains, is a place that calms your mind and inspires. For centuries, this has been a place favored by many celebrities and artists.

People travel to Deiร  village for its postcard views, peaceful atmosphere, and traditional Mallorcan charm. Plus, none of the other villages in Mallorca have as many cafรฉs and restaurants with scenic terraces as Deiร !

Deiร  is worth visiting even if you only have time to stop for a couple of minutes before continuing on your journey around the island. There are amazing viewpoints and cafรฉs with panoramic views right along the main road winding through Deiร .

If you have more time, I recommend hiking up Deiร  hill to the Sant Joan de Deiร  Church and the cemetery next to it for the most scenic views over the surrounding mountains and olive groves. Deiร  is one of my favorite mountain villages in Mallorca!

7. Banyalbufar

Mallorca, Spain-Banyalbufar village in Mallorca
Banyalbufar is one of the most charming villages in Mallorca

Nestled in the Serra de Tramuntana mountains, Banyalbufar village is a hidden gem on the west coast of Mallorca. This picturesque village is known for its iconic terraced landscapes that cascade from the coastal cliff down to the Mediterranean Sea.

Banyabufar’s terraces date back to the Moorish times when they were developed for agricultural purposes some time around the 10th century. And they continue to serve this purpose to this day!

The small village is known for its wine culture and the rare Malvasia grape in particular which has been growing here for centuries. There isn’t much to do in Banyalbufar but it is a great place to stop by to enjoy the views or even sunset in the sea.

There’s a nearby defence tower Torre del Verger known as a popular spot to watch the sunset. But, honestly, any place along the coastal road will do just fine. The sea views from this part of the island of Mallorca are unmatched!

8. Pollenรงa

Pollenรงa or Pollensa is a picturesque Roman-time town in the north of the island of Mallorca known for its famous 365 Calvari Steps – a must-do climb for every visitor to the island.

The iconic stairway consists of 365 stone steps, symbolically representing each day of the year. The steps start in the heart of Pollenรงa town and lead uphill to the 18th-century Calvari Chapel.

We came to Pollenรงa for the stairs but stayed for its historical charm. Other things to do in Pollensa include crossing the ancient Roman Bridge of Pollenรงa, stopping for tapas and sangria at Plaรงa Major, and admiring the frescoes in Pollenรงa Church.

If you have more time, I recommend checking out the Pollensa Museum located inside a former convent. When we visited, one of the exhibitions was displayed inside a church.

But if you plan your visit to Pollenรงa on Sunday, then you must stroll through the hustle and bustle of Pollenรงa Sunday Market! I got two new dresses there and my husband was happy to get caramelized almonds – his favorites!

9. Sant Elm

Mallorca, Spain-Sant Elm village in Mallorca
Sant Elm is one of the most picturesque villages in Mallorca, Spain

Sant Elm is one of the most charming coastal villages in Mallorca and certainly one of my absolute favorites. We have visited this small coastal oasis already more than 5 times and it never disappoints.

The village sits on the southwestern tip of Mallorca and is known for its crystal clear waters, sandy beach, and megawatt views of the nearby uninhabited island Sa Dragonera named after its dragon-like shape.

Sant Elm is actually one of the most popular departure points for boat trips to Sa Dragonera. The tiny island boasts three hiking trails to each end of the island as well as to the highest peak in Sa Dragonera.

Sant Elm fishing village is rather remote and located away from Mallorca’s main tourist sights so it is one of the best places to go for those looking for a more peaceful retreat. It won’t be empty but definitely less crowded.

If you are a traveler looking for places away from the hustle and bustle, then a trip to Sant Elm is for you. Grab an ice cream and stroll around the coastline or find a spot at a seaside restaurant to enjoy this place and the views to the fullest.

If you are into easy and modest hikes, then go on a trip to the uninhabited Sa Dragonera or embark on a hike from Sant Elm to the nearby Torre de Cala en Basset or Mirador de la Trapa, one of the most beautiful viewpoints in Mallorca.

10. Portocolom

Named after the explorer Christopher Columbus, the picturesque fishing village Portocolom in eastern Mallorca is one of the island’s authentic hidden gems.

Portocolom is the ultimate postcard village!

I had seen photos of this village on the internet and immediately knew I had to visit. Portocolom is known for its colorful waterfront, with traditional fishermen’s houses and boat garages displaying every shade of color along the coastline.

The village also boasts a large natural harbor, the beautiful sandy beach Cala Marรงal, and the 19th-century Faro de Portocolom lighthouse. The village’s coastal scenery is like no other and is best enjoyed with a long walk along the waterfront.

There is a special hidden gem at the coast of Portocolom – Sa Cova Foradada. It is one of the most iconic sea caves in Mallorca, more like a perforated coastal cliff. The cave is a popular photo spot thanks to the iconic view of the lighthouse (see photo above).

11. Port Andratx

Mallorca, Spain-Port Andratx
Port dโ€™Andratx is often regarded as the most beautiful port in Mallorca

Often regarded as the most beautiful port in Mallorca, Port Andratx is a must-visit, picture-perfect bay on the island’s southwestern coast. The scenery feels like something straight out of an old-money movie!

This coastal oasis originated as a small fishing village but has since evolved into a modern harbor, hosting luxury yachts, upscale restaurants, and chic boutique stores. It is a unique blend of modern luxury and traditional simplicity.

Despite all the cool yachts, the port still houses traditional fishing vessels that arrive every morning with the fresh catch of the day. You can buy all this freshly caught goodness at a seafood market in the port.

Although the old town of Port Andratx is quintessentially charming, my favorite will always be walks along the waterside where you can check out all the boats and yachts, have a drink at a waterside restaurant, or just stroll along the promenade.

Port Andratx is especially magical during sunset when the entire coastline and nearby hills, covered with colorful buildings, shine in golden hues. It’s no wonder so many international celebrities have properties in the Port Andratx area. It’s magical!

We stumbled upon Capdepera almost by accident and I’m glad we did. This village offers a little glimpse into Mallorca’s medieval past with its imposing 14th-century hilltop castle, Castell de Capdepera, towering above the rest of the village.

The castle is actually more like a fortress that housed villagers inside during pirate attacks. It was ordered by King Jaume II and you can explore it for a small entrance fee. Each May they host a medieval fair inside the castle.

The climb up to the castle was a great exercise with rewarding views at the top. We could see the entire village and the surrounding area. They say it’s even possible to see Menorca on a clear day, but as you can see, we had a sky full of Saharan dust.

If you are in the area, I highly recommend visiting Capdepera! The village itself is quite charming and quintessentially Mallorcan with its typical stone houses, narrow streets, and squares. I really liked Capdepera!

Happy exploring!

Mallorca is one of my favorite islands I have ever been to. Years ago I thought Mallorca was a party island made for beachgoers. Now, after visiting Mallorca 5-6 times it is hard for me to think of a more diverse and multifaceted island than Mallorca.

We spent many months living in Mallorca while traveling around and discovering something new each time we went out the door – caves, villages, beaches, or epic views in the Serra de Tramuntana mountains, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

I hope you enjoy your time in the turquoise waters, picturesque villages, and crazy landscapes of Mallorca as much as we did and I hope you get some travel inspiration from this blog post! Happy exploring!
