20 ultimate best places to visit in Mallorca, Spain
Let me share with you the best places to visit in Mallorca, Spain! Mallorca is one of the most diverse islands I have ever been to and it captivated me with its pristine beaches, Serra de Tramuntana landscapes, and charming villages.
We spent a couple of months living in Mallorca and exploring everything this beautiful island had to offer. No matter what kind of traveler you are, there is definitely something for everyone in Mallorca.
On this list, you’ll find the best places to visit in Mallorca, complete with photos, descriptions, and locations on the map. I hope you enjoy your time on one of my favorite Spanish islands as much as we did. Happy travels!
1. Palma de Mallorca and Cathedral of Mallorca
Mallorca is all about its natural beauty with golden-sand coves, turquoise waters, and dramatic mountain landscapes. Probably the best thing to do in Mallorca is to go away from the big touristy cities and explore but don’t skip Palma completely!
Palma de Mallorca features some iconic landmarks that are worth a visit. The most striking building in Palma de Mallorca is the cathedral (known as La Seu). It is one of the tallest Gothic buildings in Europe and dates back to the 13th century.
The stunning cathedral features one of the largest rose windows in the world, a massive 44-meter-high nave, and a chapel inside designed by the one and only Antoni Gaudรญ, author of Barcelona’s Sagrada Famรญlia. It is a must-see in Mallorca!
Location: Catedral de Santa Marรญa de Mallorca
2. Calรณ des Moro
To me, Calรณ des Moro beach embodies Mallorca like no other place. These small bays, called coves (or ‘calas’ in Spanish), with golden sand, turquoise water, and pine-tree-covered coastal cliffs perfect for cliff jumping, are the epitome of Mallorca.
Without a doubt, Calรณ des Moro is the most beautiful beach in Mallorca. This wild and secluded cove is a small piece of paradise and one of the best places to visit on the island. I’ve been here many times, and this postcard view never gets old!
Location: Calรณ des Moro
3. Cuevas del Drach
Coves del Drach or Dragon Caves located in the village of Porto Cristo on the east coast of Mallorca are the most famous caves in Spain’s Balearic Islands and probably in all of Spain. These caves have been known to locals since the Middle Ages.
Known for their impressive rock formations, underground concerts, and boat rides in a 170-meter-long and 30-meter-wide underground lake named Lake Martel, these caves have become one of the most popular places to visit in Mallorca.
As you enter the impressive cave you will first wander around the underground maze and then you will arrive at a large underground hall like an auditorium with seats towards the lake. This is where you will be surprised with a live concert!
There are musicians sitting in a boat and floating around the lake while performing a classical music concert to you. Sounds pretty wild, am I right? After the concert, you have the possibility to jump inside the boat and cross the lake on a boat!
Lake Martel is one of the largest underground lakes in the world and I felt truly special riding a boat in the very depths of the cave deep underground.
Las Cuevas del Drach caves is one of the main tourist attractions in Mallorca and, understandably, this is a popular place among tourists so be prepared to go there with a big crowd. Despite the amount of people, I still recommend visiting these caves!
Location: Coves del Drach
4. Es Pontร s Natural Sea Arch
Es Pontร s, one of the natural wonders of Mallorca, translates as ‘the big bridge’ and is one of the most iconic rock formations and one of my favorite viewpoints in Mallorca. I have been to this place three times and the views never disappoint!
Es Pontร s is a natural bridge-like sea arch right off the coast of southeast Mallorca. You can either see it from the coast at Mirador de Es Pontร s, visit during a boat tour, or swim to it from the coast. We saw many adrenaline junkies cliff-jumping there!
Location: Mirador de Es Pontร s
5. Sรณller and Church of Sant Bartomeu
Sรณller is one of the most beautiful towns in Mallorca nestled between the Serra de Tramuntana mountains near the northwest coast of Mallorca. It is known for its iconic 16th-century Church of Sant Bartomeu and its famous vintage tram.
Sรณller church is one of the bucket list places to visit in Mallorca. The intricate stone carvings, large arches, and a blend of Gothic and modernist elements is a masterpiece by the architect Joan Rubiรณ i Bellver, a student of the famous Antoni Gaudรญ.
Visiting this iconic symbol is one of the top things to do in Sรณller. We also visited the inside of the church to see its vaulted ceilings and beautiful stained glass windows. I especially loved the massive rose windows.
The medieval church has become a symbol of Sรณller and has been ever-present in many cultural and historical events in the town for centuries. Even today people gather in the main square to eat, drink, and socialize with the church quietly overlooking it all.
While visiting Sรณller, don’t forget to taste one of their legendary orange ice creams made of oranges grown in their own valley. I also recommend window shopping on The Moon Street which is the main shopping street in Sรณller.
If you can stay for lunch I recommend finding a spot in the main square, Plaรงa de la Constituciรณ, in one of their outdoor restaurants. The iconic vintage tram connecting Sรณller with Port de Soller passes right through the square.
Location: Sant Bartomeu Church – Plaรงa de la Constituciรณ
6. Formentor Peninsula and Mirador Es Colomer
The Formentor Peninsula is one of the most epic landscapes in Mallorca. Located on the north coast of the island, this peninsula features sharp, steep cliffs, a rugged coastline, and panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea.
There is a must-see place in this peninsula, Mirador Es Colomer viewpoint named after the tiny island called Es Colomer, which you can actually spot from the coast. You can’t leave the island without visiting this iconic viewpoint in Mallorca!
This bucket list place gets especially busy during sunset when the viewpoint and its nearby Albercutx Watchtower gather locals and tourists hunting the most dramatic sunset views you can get on the island of Mallorca.
If you have more time, you can drive to the very north of the island to Cap de Formentor cape – the most northern tip of Mallorca marked by a large white 19th-century lighthouse sitting on a cliff 210 meters above the sea.
Location: Mirador de Es Colomer – Cap de Formentor
7. Cala Llombards
Cala Llombards is the epitome of Mallorca’s natural beauty and coastal charm! Hidden at the southeastern coast of the island, this small, sheltered cove with powdery white sand is framed by pine-tree-covered rugged cliffs on both sides.
Apart from the crystal clear waters in a turquoise shade, the beach also hosts charming fishermen’s garages for boats right by the water. Look at those pretty green doors – this shade is typical in Mallorca!
Cala Llombards is also one of the best beaches in Mallorca for cliff-jumping. There is a small paved pathway along the cliffs where you can find a spot, leave your stuff, and then go cliff-jumping. The cliffs are pretty low and perfect for beginners!
Location: Cala Llombards
8. Valldemossa village in Serra de Tramuntana
Valldemossa is my favorite mountain village and one of the best places to visit in Mallorca. It is known for its cobblestone streets, traditional Mallorcan architecture, and such landmarks as the Carthusian monastery and the Palace of King Sancho.
I recommend stopping in Valldemossa for a couple of hours to explore its scenic viewpoints, try the local pastry, and walk the most beautiful street in Mallorca. For lunch, I recommend the traditional Mallorcan Pa amb oli tapas at QuitaPenas Valldemossa.
For the best views of the village stop by Mirador de Valldemossa on the road MA-1110 and walk to Sa Miranda Des Lledoners viewpoint inside the little village. For the most beautiful streets check out Carrer Rectoria (and its nearby streets).
One of the must-do things to do in Valldemossa is to try the local pastry Coca de Patata. We went to Pastisseria Ca’n Molinas, a traditional local bakery that has been around for about 100 years.
The liveliest place in Valldemossa is Plaรงa Cartoixa Square – this is where life happens. There are outdoor restaurants, boutique shops, cafes, and a view of the former monastery. An ideal place to hang out and people-watch!
Location: Mirador de Valldemossa
9. Village of Deiร
Deiร is another dreamy mountain village in the Serra de Tramuntana just a short drive from Valldemossa. For centuries, this has been a place favored by many celebrities and artists due to its peaceful atmosphere and inspiring scenery.
These days many tourists travel to Deiร village for its postcard views and traditional Mallorcan charm. Even if you don’t have time to explore Deiร , just driving by and stopping for one of those iconic hillside shots from Carretera de Deiร is a must!
If you have more time, I recommend hiking up Deiร hill to the Sant Joan de Deiร Church and the cemetery next to it for the most scenic views over the surrounding area, mountains, and olive groves.
Besides, none of the other villages in Mallorca have as many cafรฉs and restaurants with scenic terraces as Deiร ! There are a couple of them lined along the main road like Cafe Deiรก or you can plan a more fancy lunch at the famous La Residencia Hotel.
Location: Deiร
10. Mirador de sa Foradada
Mirador de sa Foradada is a must-visit viewpoint in Mallorca. Itโs one of the most popular spots to watch the sunset, but it looks epic at any time of day thanks to its unique featureโa perforated sea cliff stretching into the sea.
The breathtaking viewpoint is located near Deiร village and is easily accessible if you have a rental car. Just in case you decide to wait for the sunset, check out the nearby Foradada Restaurant and ask for a table. Unbeatable views are guaranteed!
Location: Mirador de sa Foradada
11. The 365 Calvari Steps in Pollenรงa
Climbing the famous 365 Calvari Steps, or Escala del Calvari, in Pollenรงa is one of the bucket list things to do in Mallorca. The iconic stairway consists of 365 stone steps, symbolically representing each day of the year.
The steps start in the heart of Pollenรงa town and lead uphill to the 18th-century Calvari Chapel. Although 365 steps may sound like a lot, it truly isn’t so difficult because the steps are very small and flat. Take your time and you’ll be fine!
Historically, the 365 Calvari Steps were created as a path for pilgrimage but today they serve as a famous landmark and tourist attraction. My favorite part was the view – with each step we climbed we had an even better and better view of the town below.
Other things to do in Pollensa include crossing the ancient Roman Bridge of Pollenรงa, stopping for tapas and sangria at Plaรงa Major, and admiring the frescoes in Pollenรงa Church. We came here for the stairs but ended up staying the whole day!
Location: Calvari Steps
12. The iconic Sa Calobra Road and Torrent de Pareis
Driving the serpentine twists and hairpin bends of the famous Sa Calobra Road is an experience made for real thrill-seekers! My husband loves winding mountain roads so he was absolutely ecstatic to drive here, haha!
If you are just like him (and have a rental car!), driving Sa Calobra road or MA-2141 is one of the absolute must-do things to do in Mallorca’s Serra de Tramuntana mountains. It is considered one of the most iconic roads in the world!
The best section of the 13-kilometer road starts at the Nus de Sa Corbata or the Tie Knot and then descends 800 meters ending at the secluded beach of Sa Calobra – another one of the best places to visit in Mallorca.
Sa Calobra pebble beach is actually the mouth of a stream named Torrent de Pareis. There is a narrow opening between two cliffs where the stream enters the sea. You can access it via a pedestrian tunnel carved into the coastal cliff. Adventure of a lifetime!
Location: Sa Calobra Road – Torrent de Pareis
13. Port of Cala Figuera
Everyone is swooning over the charming mountain villages in Mallorca but I am here to tell you that there are some must-visit coastal pearls in Mallorca, too. Cala Figuera and its picturesque port is my favorite coastal village in Mallorca.
Cala Figuera fishing village is known for its coastal charm with its narrow bay, azure waters, and white boats as well as the white fishermen’s houses lined at the waterโs edge with pine trees hanging above.
It is the picture-perfect postcard village with some of Mallorca’s most iconic Instagrammable spots! There’s even a path along the coastline named the ‘Photography Route’ where you can take lots of photos of the charming bay.
We visited the village in the morning and it was the perfect place to go for a stroll along the water with all the boats parked in the bay. It was a clear day so the colors of the crystal-clear waters were popping! One of my favorite places to visit in Mallorca!
Location: Port of Cala Figuera
14. Coves d’Artร
The Artร Caves located in the Northeast side of the island is a large network of spectacular limestone caves. I have to be honest – the Drach Caves may be the most popular ones but Artร Caves were definitely my favorite caves in Mallorca!
One of the main things why I like these caves better is that you can actually enjoy the visit – you can only visit them on a guided tour in small groups which makes it a more intimate experience.
And, secondly, the cave itself with its rock formations, chamber, and galleries is actually the most spectacular cave I have visited. I have been to numerous caves all over Spain and this truly was the most jaw-dropping of them all.
The stalactites and stalagmites reach as high as 40 meters high towering above our heads. I felt like a dwarf wandering around Moria (fans of The Lord of the Rings will know, haha)! If you can, I highly recommend visiting this place!
Location: Coves d’Artร
15. Platja des Trenc
Platja des Trenc or Es Trenc Beach is often regarded as one of the most beautiful sandy beaches in Mallorca. It is a 2-kilometer-long Caribbean-like beach with soft white sand and shallow turquoise waters.
This wild beach located in a protected natural area is perfect for beachgoers but might be a bit boring for adventure seekers. But it still gets crowded so the best time to come here is in the morning!
Most of the top beaches in Mallorca are little, quite rocky coves with limited space for parking and people, but this special beach will fit a ton of beachgoers and everybody will have a space! The only thing missing is some palm trees for shade.
Location: Platja des Trenc
16. Medieval Walls of Alcรบdia Old Town
The old town of Alcรบdia is the most beautiful old town in Mallorca. It is known for its well-preserved medieval walls, city gates, traditional Mallorcan architecture, and popular weekly markets.
As you enter Alcรบdia through one of its medieval city gates, this charming town captivates you with its narrow streets, cobblestone squares, boutique shops, and quaint cafes. We have visited Alcรบdia many times and it is as charming as it gets!
Walking around the medieval walls of Alcรบdia is a bucket list thing to do in this small town. If you only have time for one thing then the glorious walk around the walls is the one.
Other landmarks in Alcรบdia include the 14th-century Sant Jaume d’Alcรบdia Church as well as the ruins of the ancient Roman city Pollentia. See all the things to do in Alcรบdia Old Town here! Alcรบdia was one of my favorite places to visit in Mallorca.
Location: Alcรบdia Old Town
17. Weekly Markets in Mallorca
Mallorca is known for its weekly markets that take place all around the island. Every day there are several markets taking place in one of Mallorca’s villages or towns. You can’t visit Mallorca and not see at least one traditional Mallorca market!
There is a long list of markets in Mallorca and you can’t possibly visit them all. I recommend combining a visit to one of the villages or towns that already is on your Mallorca itinerary with a visit to one of the weekly markets.
For example, if you are planning a visit to Alcรบdia to walk around its medieval walls then maybe do it on Tuesday or Sunday when the town hosts one of the largest markets in Mallorca!
These markets feature a wide array of stalls offering products and goods like cheeses, cured meats, handmade crafts, clothing, and souvenirs as well as intricate jewelry, leather goods, and traditional Mallorcan pottery. They are a must-visit!
18. MA-10 road through Serra de Tramuntana
There is no better way to experience the breathtaking beauty of Mallorca than by driving around and soaking it all in, especially in the mountains. One of my favorite things to do in Serra de Tramuntana was driving the scenic MA-10 mountain road.
MA-10 is one of the main roads in Mallorca crossing the Serra de Tramuntana mountains all the way from the north of Mallorca to the south offering stunning vistas of rugged cliffs, azure waters, and picturesque mountain villages.
Driving the whole road would take no less than 3 hours so I recommend driving the best section from Andratx to Valldemossa or Deiร . This route travels along the coastline with epic views over the Mediterranean Sea and Tramuntana.
This scenery is like from a movie with one hairpin turn after another, crystal clear water down below, and a mountain landscape far ahead. Don’t forget to stop by viewpoints, charming villages, or cliffside restaurants along the way!
Location: MA-10 Road
19. The roofless L’Esglรฉsia Nova
Esglรฉsia Nova (‘the New Church’) is one of the most iconic hidden gems in Mallorca. The unusual church is located in Son Servera municipality in the northeast of Mallorca and is a true architectural wonder.
As you can see from the photos, the unique thing about this church is that it doesn’t have a roof!
What was meant to be a full-blown church designed by Joan Rubiรณ, one of the students of the famous Antoni Gaudรญ, is now a unique tourist attraction and a venue for different events like concerts, weddings, etc.
There were grand plans for L’Esglรฉsia Nova Church but it never got finished due to the lack of funds so today we are left with a skeletal carcass with Gothic and Modernist elements.
You can visit the church for free during its opening hours but, honestly, it is not a place I would make a special 2-hour trip just to see the church. But I still recommend visiting this marvel if you are in the area.
Location: L’Esglรฉsia Nova
20. Jardins d’Alfร bia
Jardins d’Alfร bia gardens take you to some unseen scenery. The lush historical gardens date back to the 13th century when this estate was created by the Moors who ruled over Mallorca at that time.
The scenic gardens feature fountains, palm trees, lush walkways as well as an abundance of exotic plants and flowers as well as a manor fit for royals.
There is a special walkway where you can switch on water fountains with streams of water dancing over the walkway (see the first photo). Just don’t get stuck in the middle when it turns on or you’ll be wet!
After the gardens, we also visited the 13th-century manor house with antique furniture and a fusion of Moorish, Gothic, and Baroque architectural styles. If you have some free time to explore, I recommend stopping by this pretty estate!
Location: Jardins d’Alfร bia
Happy exploring!
Mallorca is one of my favorite islands I have ever been to. Years ago I thought Mallorca was a party island made for beachgoers. Now, after visiting Mallorca 5-6 times it is hard for me to think of a more diverse and multifaceted island than Mallorca.
We spent a few months living in Mallorca while traveling around and discovering something new each time we went out the door – caves, villages, beautiful beaches, or epic views in the Serra de Tramuntana, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
I hope you enjoy your time in the turquoise waters, picturesque villages, and crazy landscapes of Mallorca as much as we did and I hope you get some travel inspiration from this blog post! Happy exploring!
