Among all the things to do in Sóller, there is one you cannot skip – trying the local legend, Sóller orange ice cream! The iconic dessert is made of Sóller Valley’s sun-kissed oranges which are known for their sweetness and distinct flavor.

There are many ice cream shops all around Sóller and I would guess you can get orange flavor in each one of them. We went to Gelat Sóller – a local artisan ice cream brand that has been making high-quality ice cream with local ingredients for 30 years!

Dedicated to Saint Bartholomew, the imposing 16th-century church was built in the Gothic architectural style but over time was renovated by adding Baroque elements. It is one of the most beautiful places in Mallorca! You can visit the interior for a small fee.

The outside as we see it today with its intricate stone carvings, large arches, and a blend of Gothic and modernist elements is a masterpiece by the Catalan architect Joan Rubió i Bellver who was a student of the world-renowned Antoni Gaudí.

We also visited the inside of the church. It features high vaulted ceilings and beautiful stained glass windows. I especially loved the rose windows. There is also a small museum with notable religious artworks.

The medieval church has become a symbol of Sóller and has been ever-present in many cultural and historical events in the town for centuries. Even today people gather in the main square to eat, drink, and socialize with the church quietly overlooking it all.

Located right next to the impressive Church of Sant Bartomeu is one of the most unique banks in Spain. Well, the bank itself is not really unique but the modernist building where it is housed is a local masterpiece.

Banc Santander is housed inside a marvelous 20th-century architectural gem that offers a beautiful blend of modernist and Art Nouveau styles. It was one of my favorite places to visit in Sóller!

The facade of the bank features intricate stone carvings as well as wrought-iron balconies, and large, arched windows (see photos above). We didn’t try to enter the building but I have to say that the outside is what you really have to see here.

The building was designed by a famous Catalan architect Joan Rubió i Bellver who was a student of the famous architect Antoni Gaudí (the architect of the world-famous Sagrada Família and many other buildings in Barcelona).

One of my favorite places in Sóller – the old-world café La Confiança

La Confiança is an iconic bakery and café in Sóller. The special thing about it is that the café is housed in a historic building dating back to 1845. However, the gorgeous modernist interior of the café dates back to 1906.

The bakery itself has been in business for many decades serving locals and tourists delicious coffee and a wide selection of handmade pastries, including traditional Mallorcan pastry – ensaïmada.

The charming street also features many beautiful buildings showcasing the traditional Mallorcan architecture. Probably the most famous building is the Art Nouveau mansion Can Prunera with a museum inside.

Can Prunera is an early 20th-century modernist building and a wonderful example of Art Nouveau architecture in Sóller. The imposing building was built when the economy of the town of Soller thrived due to its citrus trade.

The massive house was built for a wealthy local family involved in the citrus trade and here you can not only find art exhibitions but also see how wealthy people lived back then. Most of the rooms around the house are well-preserved.

Today the private residence has been turned into a museum and serves as a historical landmark in Sóller. There are many doors and many rooms to explore. If you have like 30 minutes to spare this is a great place to explore in Soller.

We walked around for 40 minutes. Art, especially contemporary art, may not be my thing but the house was really beautiful. All the rooms looked stately and the spiral staircase and the garden outside were my favorite spots there.

There’s another local treat you have to try when visiting the town of Sóller and it is called the Sóller Bomb drink! There are some variations to it but in general, the drink consists of fresh orange juice with local orange ice cream and cream on top.

One of the best places to try it is El Petit Cafeteria. We tried the Sóller Bomb drink in Gelat Sóller ice cream shop but it is available in many cafés around the town center. It usually costs between 7-10 EUR and is very refreshing. Not too sweet at all!

Sóller, Mallorca, Spain-Sóller tram

If you are staying in the town for a longer while there are some unmissable things to do in Sóller you have to include in your itinerary. One of them is riding the iconic Sóller tram known as the Tranvía de Sóller.

The tram runs along a 5-kilometer line connecting Sóller with its coastal town Port de Sóller. It has been running since 1913 transporting locals and tourists along the citrus groves and olive groves thriving in the fertile land of the Sóller valley.

Opened in the early 20th century, this was Mallorca’s first electric tram line! The ride is a scenic journey with dramatic views and fresh air coming from the orange and lemon groves along the way. Check timetables and prices here (choose the tram!).

Port de Soller town next to the calm waters of the Mediterranean Sea is a wonderful place to discover and definitely worth visiting! It offers a long sandy beach, picturesque views, and an abundance of local restaurants lined along the waterfront.
