1. Roque Nublo

Roque Nublo is a name you should be familiar with if you are going to Gran Canaria. It is probably the most famous rock formation in Gran Canaria – a landmark sight in the mountains.
Thus, it has become one of the most visited and photographed places in Gran Canaria as well as serves as one of the best Instagram photo spots on the island.
You can take photos with the rocks, with different views over the island, during the sunrise or the sunset, when there are clouds, or on a clear day – it is beautiful no matter the situation!

2. Rectangular platform at Roque Nublo

There is an interesting spot next to the Roque Nublo cliff that has become a popular Instagram photo place in Gran Canaria. As you approach Roque Nublo there is a possibility to go next to it on the left side.
There is a small path. If you go there, you will find a rectangular-shaped platform pictured above where you can take some beautiful pictures from a unique angle!
The pictures are especially beautiful and unique when there are clouds or during the sunset and especially when you can see the Teide volcano on Tenerife island over the horizon. Definitely take a picture here, if you visit Roque Nublo!

3. La Cesta

La Cesta translates as ‘basket’ in Spanish and it is a beautifully located viewpoint near Tejeda village in the mountains. This is definitely one of the most famous Instagram places in Gran Canaria! I guess it was originally meant to be photographed and was meant to attract tourists who are looking for a unique photo.
It is a metal frame in the shape of a basket, where you can sit inside. In the middle of it, you can see the famous Roque Bentayga rock – a landmark rock formation in Gran Canaria. You can park your car right next to it – there are 2 or 3 places for cars.
Location: La Cesta
4. Barranco de Las Vacas

Barranco de las Vacas or Las Vacas ravine is probably my favorite rock formation in Gran Canaria and one of my favorite Instagram photo places in Gran Canaria as well!
It is a short trail (around 300 meters) that goes through a beautifully shaped and narrow ravine that has been formed due to erosion. Getting there is quite easy and it will be a short stop!
You can get there by car (parking places below), and then continue on foot. At first, you have to reach the bridge, climb over the road fence, and descend down to the bottom of the ravine (there is a path leading downhill).
Then go through the tunnel below the bridge and follow the ravine slightly uphill. It is only about 200-300 meters long so you will soon see all the beauty the ravine offers. I would recommend going early in the morning to avoid bigger crowds!

5. Tunnel at Puerto de la Aldea

This tunnel at Puerto de la Aldea might not look like anything special, but it has quickly become of of the most popular Instagram photo places in Gran Canaria. Whether it is the view of the ocean, the mountains, or the unique combinations – people just like it!
It is located in quite a small town, so you can make a short stop here and take a walk along the beach and port, take a photo, maybe sit down in a restaurant to have tapas, and then continue your journey.

6. Cueva de San Rafael

Cueva de San Rafael is actually not a real cave, but it is a water reservoir in an abandoned countryside property near Telde town. The gate to the property was open when we visited and there was nobody around.
When you enter the property, you will soon see on your right an open underground space with stairs leading further down. After going down the stairs you will see multiple huge stone pillars connecting the floor to the ceiling.
They almost look like something from an ancient Egyptian temple! This place is quite simple and, sadly, totally abandoned, however, it looks really cool in photos so this is a great and totally unique Instagram place in Gran Canaria!

7. Los Azulejos (Rainbow Rocks)

Los Azulejos, also called Rainbow Rocks, is an area in the southwest part of Gran Canaria where you can enjoy some incredibly unique sights.
Due to erosion, rocks in some areas have revealed beautiful rainbow-colored outcrops. There are different minerals in different colors layered next to each other that look like someone has painted the mountain.
However, it is all-natural and it is one of the most unique places in Gran Canaria. Just stop your car at the side of the road and walk around to enjoy the view and take some colorful Instagram photos!

8. ‘Dragon Tail’ rocks at Mirador del Balcรณn

Mirador del Balcรณn is probably the most famous viewpoint in Gran Canaria. But it is definitely famous for the views over the coastal cliffs that you can observe from a glass platform that has been built over the ocean.
The sharp peaks of the West coastline of Gran Canaria somehow resembled a ‘dragon’s tail’ for somebody, so the view is called the ‘dragon’s tail’. This is one of the best places for watching the sunset as well as observing Tenerife island on a clear day.

9. Puerto de Mogรกn

Puerto de Mogรกn is a port area in the southwest of Gran Canaria that is full of cute and attractive houses, blooming bushes, nice cafes, and restaurants.
This is an area where you just want to go, buy ice cream, and just walk around observing the holiday vibes that are around you. People are just relaxing there and so should you!
One more thing that people do there is taking pictures of the beautiful and colorful flowers that are blooming all around! This is a great Instagram spot if you are looking for a ‘holiday vibe’ photo like the one above!

10. Ventana del Bentayga

Ventana del Bentayga is one of a couple of window-shaped rock formations in Gran Canaria and is definitely my favorite one! The ‘Ventana’ means ‘window’ in Spanish, and it is the Window of Bentayga because you can see the Roque Bentayga cliff through it.
However, it is not easily reachable and will take about 45 minutes of climbing to get there. However, the views are absolutely stunning and it is totally worth it! This is an impressive Instagram place in Gran Canaria with some of the best views you can get! Read more about how to get there HERE!

11. Perro del Bentayga

Perro del Bentayga or ‘Dog of Bentayga’ is a rock formation in Gran Canaria that somehow resembles a dog. Maybe not a dog, but some kind of animal’s head for sure, haha!
To get there you have to drive to Roque Bentayga and follow a road past it. You can park your car HERE and then it will be a 1-minute hike to the rock formation.
Just follow a trail straight up a small hill and continue to follow it until you reach the location of the rock formation in Google Maps. It is more than easy to get there. This is strange, but an interesting place for an interesting photo!

12. Mirador El Toscรณn

Mirador El Toscรณn is one of the most unique viewpoints in Gran Canaria! If you happen to be in the area, I really recommend visiting this spot! This could be especially incredible during the sunset!
There are not only amazing views over the island as well as the Teide volcano on Tenerife island (visible on a clear day!), but there is also an arch, a metal cross, and a bell – some kind of a memorial for something.
Location: Mirador El Toscรณn ยท Parking places
13. Cuevas del Rey

Cuevas del Rey or the King’s caves are aboriginal caves located next to a small village ‘El Roque’ not far from the prominent Roque del Bentayga cliff in the mountains of Gran Canaria.
These were probably my favorite caves in Gran Canaria! Mostly because of their location and great views, but also because of the vibes and atmosphere we got there while exploring the caves above a tiny village into the ‘nowhere land’.
I sometimes wonder how people even live in such inaccessible places!? The cave overlooking the village also makes for a great Instagram place in Gran Canaria! Read more about unique caves in Gran Canaria HERE!

14. Ventana de Morro / Ventana de la Gaรฑifa

Ventana de Morro is another beautiful window-shaped rock formation in Gran Canaria! It is located just a few meters from the highest point in Gran Canaria – Morro de la Agujereada.
To get there you have to drive your car up to the very top of the Pico de las Nieves parking lot. The Ventana del Morro is located just 50 meters down from the viewpoint – it is a 1 to 2-minute walk from the parking lot.
The best angle of the window where you can see Roque Nublo and even Teide volcano on a clear day is from around HERE. You will have to zoom in a little bit for a photo like the one above.
Don’t believe anyone who says that it is difficult to reach these spots, haha! It will literally take you 1 to 2 minutes to get to these spots from the parking lot. Just be careful!

15. Maspalomas Sand Dunes

Maspalomas Sand Dunes is probably one of the most known tourist attractions on the island. Can you imagine – a volcanic island has a local desert? It is sometimes hard to believe, but it is true!
There is a huge area of sand dunes that you can access in many places. We parked and accessed the area from the East side – there is a free parking lot very near to it and an easy way to access the dunes and take some nice photos.

Happy exploring!
Gran Canaria provides us with some incredible diversity – starting from volcanic rock formations, and aboriginal caves and ending with a sand desert. Gran Canaria is definitely a place worth visiting!

PIN FOR LATER!

Hello, Thank you for all these spots, it helped us find really nice places to visit!!!
On the other hand, Cueva de San Rafael should be avoided at all costs!!!! this place is dangerous. Isolated in the middle of nowhere the photos absolutely do not reflect the truth the pilones are gray and not golden as in the photo plus there was a collapse inside, we did not go down and took no risk. This place is not referenced anywhere in the places to visit. Avoid at all costs
Thank you for the update! I agree it is more like a unique hidden gem not a must-see place.
