In this blog post, you’ll find the most stunning viewpoints in Portugal with descriptions, photos, and exact locations on Google Maps, so you can easily add them to your Portugal itinerary. Are you ready to see Portugal from above? Happy travels!

1. Serra da Estrela, highest point in mainland Portugal

Serra da Estrela mountain in Portugal - best things to do in Portugal
Visiting Serra da Estrela mountain is a bucket list thing to do in Portugal

The Serra da Estrela mountain range is the highest point in continental Portugal, reaching 1993 meters above sea level at the highest point named ‘Torre’.

It is not a distinct mountain but rather the highest place on a large plateau.

Driving up to the Serra da Estrela mountain is a bucket list thing to do in Portugal. Plus, standing on the highest point of continental Portugal definitely offers some of the best views in the country.

Besides, you can drive to the very top of the country by car – there is a paved road that goes through the mountains, including over the highest point. No hiking needed!

At the top, you will see a tower with a cross on top – the highest point in Portugal. There are also a couple of restaurants and souvenir shops where you can have a meal or buy some souvenirs.

We bought some Serra da Estrela chocolate as well as the famous Serra da Estrela cheese! Its recipe is more than 2,000 years old! We quite liked it – the cheese is soft and gooey and has a strong and interesting flavor (but in a good sense!).

2. Baloiço do Trevim

The Trevim Swing is one of the most beautiful swings in Portugal and one of the most scenic viewpoints in Portugal as well. The swing is located in the Serra da Lousã mountains in the heart of Portugal, about a 1-hour drive from Coimbra.

The swing sits on a picturesque hilltop and boasts panoramic views over the surrounding area. It is easy to get to by car, as you can drive all the way up there on a paved road and park your car next to the swing.

Swinging in a swing in the mountains – there’s just no way of beating that experience! This is definitely a popular spot – no crowds, but a couple of cars did stop by while we were there.

3. Miradouro das Azenhas do Mar

Azenhas do Mar fishing village in Portugal
Miradouro das Azenhas do Mar is one of the most epic oceanside viewpoints in Portugal

Miradouro das Azenhas do Mar offers an epic view of the charming Azenhas do Mar, one of the most beautiful villages in Portugal. It is one of my favorite viewpoints in Portugal!

Azenhas do Mar name translates from Portuguese as ‘Watermills of the Sea’. The magical small town is the best place for watching the sunset in the Atlantic Ocean, which is exactly what we did when we visited this place.

The town that originated as a fishing village has now grown into a seaside resort featuring Mediterranean-style whitewashed houses with terracotta roofs.

Azenhas do Mar is situated a 40-minute drive from Lisbon, which makes it one of the best destinations for a day trip from Lisbon.

If you drive there, I recommend stopping by Miradouro das Azenhas do Mar viewpoint to enjoy the fantastic views of the town as well as the beach below with its iconic rock pool.

Another famous viewpoint near Lisbon is Cabo da Roca, or Cape Roca. It is not only the Westernmost point in Portugal, but also in mainland Europe!

The famous cape stretching into the Atlantic Ocean is the most popular place for watching the sunset in Portugal! Waiting for the sunset in Cabo da Roca is usually written on every other Portugal bucket list.

The cape also features an 18th-century lighthouse and amazing views of the surrounding landscape and the ocean.

However, due to its iconic nature, it gets very crowded, especially around sunset hours. I’ve been there many times, and I’ve seen buses full of people arriving right before sunset.

Cabo da Roca is located just a 40-minute drive from Lisbon. You can easily get there by public bus or by car. There is a large parking lot right before the lighthouse.

If you have extra time, I recommend arriving a bit earlier before sunset and taking the hiking trail along the coastline from Cabo da Roca to one of the most beautiful beaches in Portugal, Praia da Ursa (see next spot on this list!).

Location: Cabo da Roca

5. Praia da Ursa

Praia da Ursa - Ursa beach in Portugal
View of Praia da Ursa or Ursa Beach in Portugal

Praia da Ursa or Ursa Beach is easily one of the most beautiful places I have visited in Portugal! With its golden-sand shores and astonishing rock formations, this wild beach completely mesmerized me when I finally got to see it.

The beach got its name thanks to the large sea stacks – one of them is named ‘Roca da Ursa’ or the ‘Rock of Bear’.

The beach is located near Cabo da Roca, the westernmost point of Portugal and continental Europe. If you want to escape Cabo da Roca crowds, I recommend hiking the short coastal trail over to Praia da Ursa.

It is around a 20-minute walk to get to the top of the cliff and will take an extra 10 to 15 minutes of steep descent, if you want to go down by the water.

We decided to descend only halfway down to the beach, because that spot seemed to have the best perspective of the massive rocks and the beach. I think the photos turned out great.

In case you are looking for a scenic place to visit a short distance from Lisbon, then this is the perfect place to go. This is easily among the most epic views you’ll see in Portugal!

6. Ponta da Piedade

Hidden gems in Algarve - Ponta da Piedade
Ponta da Piedade is one of the most beautiful places in Portugal

Want to see the best view in the Algarve? This is it! Ponta da Piedade is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Portugal and definitely one of the most iconic places to visit in the Algarve, Portugal’s southernmost region!

The Algarve is all about golden sand beaches and incredible coastal cliffs, and Ponta da Piedade is an area near Lagos where you can observe an especially impressive view.

The ocean is full of unique golden-colored rock formations near the coast and further into the water: sea stacks, rock arches, caves, etc.

If you think of the Algarve as a great place where you can admire beautiful coastline, then Ponta da Piedade is the ultimate place to go to do that. It doesn’t get much better than this.

By the way, it is best to come here closer to high tide, as it will be more beautiful when the stones are covered by water! You can tell by the picture that we happened to be there at low tide.

You can enjoy this beauty not only from the coast but also from the water. There is a boat cruise in a small group from Lagos port along the coast to Ponta da Piedade to explore beautiful rock formations from the sea.

However, if you are into kayaking, then you will love to join this boat and kayaking tour from Lagos to Ponta da Piedade, where you will jump on a kayak and explore the caves and sea arches of Ponta da Piedade. They even let you swim in those crystal clear waters!

If you are looking for the best viewpoints in Lisbon, then this is it – Miradouro de Santa Luzia.

Thanks to the beautiful pergola covered with vines and flower bushes, as well as tile-covered walls, this viewpoint has become one of the most visited and photographed places in Lisbon.

Yes, it is crowded, but here’s the secret – come here for sunrise! We visited Lisbon in the middle of July, and even then, there were just a couple of people here to watch the sunrise with us!

If you are an early riser, I highly recommend coming here in the morning.

It is not only a nicer experience to be there without crowds, but it also looks more beautiful when the glowing sun rays paint the whole city and its terracotta roofs in golden hues.

Yes, you can always come back here during the day as well to see how it looks then. The viewpoint is in a central location, and I’m sure you’ll pass by that place more than once.

8. Miradouro das Portas do Sol

Miradouro das Portas do Sol offers iconic views of the roofs and towers of Lisbon

Miradouro das Portas do Sol is another famous viewpoint located in the heart of Lisbon, just steps away from the popular Miradouro de Santa Luzia viewpoint.

Once you arrive at Miradouro das Portas do Sol, you’ll see a wide platform (like a flat roof) with picturesque views over the city and the Tagus River.

From here, you’ll be able to spot some of the main landmarks in Lisbon, including the towers of the beautiful Igreja de São Vicente de Fora church, as well as the dome of the National Pantheon.

9. Baloiço do Mezio

Mezio swing in Peneda-Gerês National Park is one of the best viewpoints in Portugal

Baloiço do Mezio is one of the best swings in Portugal in terms of panoramic views. Not only that – it is also one of the highest swings in the country!

The swing sits on a rocky mountain in the beautiful Peneda-Gerês National Park in Northern Portugal, and I cannot imagine a more picturesque landscape than this!

The swing is easy to get to if you have a car. In case you are traveling around Northern Portugal, you must stop at this swing to admire the views! The swing is about a 5-minute walk from the road.

Location: Baloiço do Mezio

10. Praia da Marinha

The heart-shaped rock at Praia da Marinha

Praia da Marinha is one of my top favorite beaches in Portugal, and the main reason for that is that the beach offers some of the most epic coastal views in the country!

At Praia da Marinha, you will find some of the most unique and beautiful rock formations, like the Elephant Rock or the famous heart-shaped rock, as well as others (without names, haha!).

The beach is also part of the popular Seven Hanging Valleys Trail that runs along the coastline, offering the best views of the Algarve’s most unique cliffs, caves, rock formations, and beaches.

But if you come here to enjoy the beach, you might want to know that it is best enjoyed at lower tide, as it becomes a bit narrow at high tide.

Miradouro de Fafião is a unique viewpoint located in the Peneda-Gerês National Park in northern Portugal. It is one of those truly wild and unforgettable places hidden from tourist crowds.

What makes it extra unique is that the viewpoint is placed on a massive boulder, and you can get there by a small pedestrian bridge.

Miradouro de Fafião offers some of the most dramatic panoramic views of the national park – the endless green hills, deep valleys, and rugged granite peaks as far as the eye can see.

Unlike many popular viewpoints in Peneda-Gerês National Park, Miradouro de Fafião is still off the beaten path, so you might find yourself completely alone there, just like we did. If so, then enjoy!

Location: Miradouro de Fafião

12. Baloiço da Serradela

Swings in Portugal - Baloiço da Serradela
Baloiço da Serradela offers some of the best views in Portugal

Baloiço da Serradela is one of those picture-perfect places in northern Portugal, where you can enjoy nature with incredible views. It is among the largest swings we found in Portugal!

This giant wooden swing overlooks the stunning Peneda-Gerês National Park and offers some of the best panoramic views in the region. If you are planning a road trip to the national park, I recommend adding this spot to your itinerary!

You can reach the swing by car, though the last stretch involves a short uphill walk (less than 5 minutes’ walk). There is a stone table and benches for those who stop by to have a picnic. If you are looking for swings with panoramic views in Portugal, then this is the one.

Location: Baloiço da Serradela

If you are traveling around Northern Portugal and looking for epic places with fantastic views, you have to stop by Viana do Castelo.

The town is located about an hour north of Porto, and it sits right next to the Atlantic Ocean and the mouth of the Lima River. It is one of the most iconic towns in Portugal!

However, there is one special highlight in this town, and it is the stunning Santuário de Santa Luzia, a basilica perched on top of Mount Santa Luzia overlooking the city.

You can reach the sanctuary by funicular from the town below, by car, or you can climb up there by stairs like the pilgrims! The panoramic views from up there are absolutely worth it!

We actually came to the sanctuary multiple times during our travels around Northern Portugal. The best time to come here is in the morning – you’ll get to watch sunrise in all its glory from the mountaintop with not a single soul around.

The hilltop views were beautiful during the day, too, but it was quite crowded. So it definitely has a completely different vibe depending on the time of day. However, during the day, you can peek inside the sanctuary – it is one of the most iconic churches in Portugal!

14. Miradouro do Ujo

Miradouro do Ujo viewpoint in Northern Portugal
Miradouro do Ujo is one of my favorite riverside viewpoints in Portugal

Miradouro do Ujo is another breathtaking viewpoint in Northern Portugal. It is located next to the Tua River, not far from where the Tua meets the Douro River (Tua is a tributary of the Douro River).

I love how dramatic the viewpoint is – the stairs are hanging over the deep river valley below, offering spectacular views of the green hills around it. It is literally floating in the air!

The viewpoint is the perfect place to pause during one of your road trips through Northern Portugal (which you will definitely do, am I right?).

The viewpoint is easy to reach by car – it is right by the road. If you’re exploring the Douro Valley, this viewpoint could be the perfect place to capture the natural beauty of the region!

Miradouro da Serpente do Medal

Welcome to the wild side of Portugal! Located in the far northeastern Portugal, Miradouro da Serpente do Medal is one of the remotest places you can find on the map. But it is also one of those unforgettable places that stay with you after the visit.

This viewpoint is reserved only for adventurers. If you are driving around Portugal and staying in different places along the way, maybe you can plan a visit to this iconic miradouro. Otherwise, it is just too far from any regular tourist routes.

Not only is it far removed from civilization, but you also need to manage a drive on gravel roads and then a 15-minute hike further downhill to reach this remote spot.

I mean, if you have a 4×4, you might be able to drive up to the viewpoint, but for a regular rental car, the dirt road is way too steep, in my opinion.

We parked by the road about 1.2 kilometers before the viewpoint (right before the steep descent) and continued on foot.

The viewpoint is a rock outcrop next to the river, and it is known for its incredible natural beauty and for its unique view – the snake-shaped section of the Sabor River, another tributary of the Douro River.

I loved this place so much! Getting there through quiet rural roads surrounded by green hills and forests only added to its charm. And the fantastic view at the end was a cherry on top. It is one of my favorite hidden gems in Portugal!

This is the most popular place to watch the sunset

Miradouro da Senhora do Monte is Lisbon’s iconic sunset viewpoint!

There is always one place in each big city where people watch the sunset, and if you are looking for the perfect place to watch the sunset in Lisbon, then look no further – this is the one.

Miradouro da Senhora do Monte is located in a churchyard on the highest point of one of the hills in Lisbon. It will definitely be a decent hike to get up there, but you can always get a tuk-tuk.

We had other sunset plans, so we came here in the morning. The viewpoint offers sweeping views over the whole city and is probably one of the best viewpoints you will find in Lisbon. No wonder it is so popular! The views are everything!

17. Miradouro de São Lourenço

Miradouro de São Lourenço is one of the most stunning viewpoints in northern Portugal and an absolute must-visit if you’re exploring the Douro Valley region.

It offers a majestic view of the Tua River and is located near the place where the Tua River merges with the Douro River.

It is very easy to access, as the metal platform is right by the road. If you happen to drive around this area, you can combine a visit to this viewpoint with other nearby viewpoints I’ve mentioned, like Miradouro do Ujo or Miradouro Olhos do Tua.

I love these riverside viewpoints, surrounded by forests and green hills! They truly make you appreciate Portugal’s natural beauty.

While Miradouro da Senhora do Monte is Lisbon’s iconic sunset viewpoint, Jardim do Morro is the most iconic place to watch the sunset in Porto!

Jardim do Morro is located on the Vila Nova de Gaia side next to Dom Luís I Bridge (the upper level) and offers unbeatable views of Porto across the river and the Douro River below.

This iconic garden is a favorite place for both locals and tourists to relax and enjoy the golden hour. It’s a truly magical sight and one of those bucket list things to do in Porto.

The atmosphere at Jardim do Morro is always lively around sunset, with people sitting on the grass, sharing drinks, and often enjoying live music from street performers.

We came here both in the morning to see the city views and right before sunset to see the joyful buzz. Whether it’s your first evening in Porto or your last, watching the sunset from Jardim do Morro is one of those must-experience moments in Porto!

Coração da Pombeira heart is located on a hill in the Castro Daire municipality in Northern Portugal, overlooking the most mesmerizing natural landscape of the nearby hills and a valley between them. One of the most peaceful places I visited in Portugal!

I really enjoy these kinds of remote places that, seemingly, no one knows about, so it was definitely one of my favorite viewpoints we visited in Portugal!

The heart sits on a hill right next to the road. We parked our car at the bottom of the hill and then hiked about 5 to 8 minutes up. Although the climb is quite steep, it is not too long, and the view is rewarding. Imagine visiting this place during the sunset!

Miradouro das Rocas is one of the most popular viewpoints in the Peneda-Gerês National Park. Sitting on a hill, this viewpoint offers sweeping views over the mountains, forests, and valleys that make this park so special.

The road leading to the viewpoint is scenic in itself, passing through forest areas and mountain landscapes. Once you arrive, you’ll have to park in a wide intersection and embark on a short uphill hike to get to the viewpoint.

The viewpoint is a platform on a small hill made of large rocks, hence the name (Rocas). It’s a great spot for a picnic or a short break. Driving through the mountains is tiring, so I very much appreciate such places with views to stop by and stretch my legs.

Once there, you also must stop by Miradouro da Pedra Bela right down the road from Miradouro das Rocas. This viewpoint is among the most beautiful ones in the Peneda-Gerês National Park.

It sits high above the valley and offers a stunning panoramic view of the Cávado River, the mountains, and the forests that stretch as far as the eye can see.

This viewpoint is easy to reach by car, and it has a parking area and picnic tables nearby. No hiking needed, haha! The large granite rock that gives the viewpoint its name is a popular photo spot.

Even though it is among the more popular stops in the park, it still felt very peaceful. Standing here, surrounded by nature, you really understand why this is one of the most beautiful regions in Portugal.

21. Bom Jesus do Monte

Braga, Portugal-Bom Jesus do Monte church on top of a hill with a white Baroque staircase
Climbing the stairs up to Bom Jesus do Monte is one of the top things to do in Braga

Bom Jesus do Monte is one of the most famous attractions not only in Braga but in all of Portugal. Without a doubt, it is one of the most famous churches you can find in Portugal.

This stunning sanctuary sits on a hill just outside the city and is known for its monumental Baroque stairway that zigzags all the way up to the church at the top of the hill.

Climbing the Baroque stairs is one of the must-do things to do in Braga (if you are able)!

The religious site dates back to the 14th century, though the current sanctuary and staircase were built in the 18th-19th centuries. Each level of the staircase features fountains and statues. It’s a true masterpiece and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2019.

While one of the reasons to come here is to climb the stairs and admire the sanctuary, another reason to come here is to see the fantastic views this place offers!

To reach the top, you have to climb 577 steps, so it’s a decent climb! But the views from the top are so worth it, especially if you can come here around sunset. The whole of Braga, the third largest municipality in Portugal, is at your feet!

We have visited this site many times. One of the times we came here, we arrived on Sunday morning, and it looked like locals used the stairs as a gym! So many people were walking up and down there, haha!

This is a must-visit place in Portugal, and it always takes my breath away – the architecture, the grandeur, and those panoramic views from the top! It’s a place to remember!

Baloiço de Penouços Padreiro is one of the most panoramic swings in Portugal! It is a wonderful site with picnic tables, a viewpoint with spectacular views, and two beautiful swings right next to each other.

Baloiço de Penouços Padreiro is one of the biggest swings in Portugal in terms of rope length and swinging range…which is why I loved it, haha!

Sometimes they only focus on the looks, and the swinging part is not really there. But where is all the fun if the swing is barely moving?

And the views? Amazing! There’s a viewing platform built on the nearby rocks with a wooden suspension bridge built between the rocks to access it.

Getting there is as easy as can be. The beautiful swing is located right next to the road, so you can easily pull over and make a quick stop. Or a longer one.

23. Miradouro de São Leonardo de Galafura

Portugal-Miradouro São Leonardo de Galafura
Miradouro São Leonardo de Galafura

Miradouro de São Leonardo de Galafura is one of the most breathtaking viewpoints in the Douro Valley and a must-visit for anyone exploring northern Portugal.

This viewpoint sits on a hill next to the Douro River, offering panoramic views of the vineyard-covered hills. It is probably one of the best places to see the wine region from above.

You can clearly see the lines and patterns on the hills below – it is all vineyards as far as the eye can see! From up here, you can truly appreciate why the Douro Valley is considered one of the most beautiful wine regions in the world.

The landscape looks almost painted, with endless rows of terraced vines cascading down the hillsides and the iconic river below them.

Miradouro de São Leonardo de Galafura is easily reachable by car and has plenty of parking available. If you are exploring the wine region by car, this is a must-visit spot!

Now, here’s a bit of a hidden gem for you.

Miradouro da Portela in Valença do Douro, Portugal
Miradouro da Portela with a view of the Douro River and vineyard-covered hills

Just a stone’s throw away from the previous viewpoint, but on the other side of the Douro River, you will find this tiny, charming viewpoint – Miradouro da Portela.

If you are driving by car, I recommend leaving your car at the side of the road before you turn on the smaller access road leading to this viewpoint. It is just too narrow. That’s what we did (there’s enough space to park at the road bend).

The walk to the viewpoint from the main road took us about 5 minutes, so it’s quite easily accessible. What I loved most about this viewpoint was how remote it is and that we were the only ones there. It’s a proper hidden gem.

But it also has a couple of benches to sit on, so you can also have a quick picnic here, while watching the Douro River ferries passing by far below your feet. I loved this place!

Monte Sameiro offers some of the best views of Braga

Bom Jesus do Monte is not the only sanctuary on a hilltop near Braga.

Less than 2 kilometers from Bom Jesus do Monte, you will find Monte Sameiro. And, sitting 350 meters above Braga overlooking the city, there’s the magnificent Sanctuary of Our Lady of Sameiro.

This hilltop sanctuary is one of the most important Marian sanctuaries in Portugal.

The Sanctuary of Nossa Senhora do Sameiro sits much higher than Bom Jesus do Monte, so the views are absolutely incredible. We went there around sunset, and this was one of my favorite experiences we had while traveling around Northern Portugal.

I have to say, it truly was sooo beautiful and peaceful!

The golden light reflecting on the white dome of the sanctuary, the peaceful atmosphere, the majestic views – I just look at the pictures and I get transported back there immediately in my thoughts. Something I can’t forget for sure!

Sanctuary of Our Lady of Sameiro features beautiful neoclassical architecture with an impressive dome and a detailed interior, but the large open square and the views are what really make this place special.

If you can, I recommend coming here around sunset like we did. It is just something so special and so much different than during the day.

Miradouro Olhos do Tua is a wonderful viewpoint hidden deep inland next to the Tua River, which merges with the Douro River a short distance from this viewpoint.

From this viewpoint, you can admire the breathtaking river bend of the Tua River as it hugs the green hills of the Douro region.

The viewpoint features a steel platform, placed on a rock outcrop, that extends over the valley, creating the illusion that you’re floating in thin air. I love these kinds of viewpoints!

The name ‘Olhos do Tua’ translates to ‘Eyes of Tua.’ It is one of those viewpoints that makes you pause for a moment and simply take it all in. If you’re traveling through the Douro Valley, this is a spot worth adding to your itinerary!

We left our car up in the village and came down on foot. It’s a short stroll!

Have you heard of the big waves of Nazaré?

The Miradouro das Ondas da Nazaré is one of the best viewpoints to experience the power and beauty of the Atlantic Ocean.

Located near the Forte de São Miguel Arcanjo, a must-visit place in the town of Nazaré, this spot gives you a front-row view of the giant waves that have made Nazaré a world-famous surfing destination.

Why Nazaré? Well, supposedly, there’s this Nazaré Canyon just off the coast. It is an underwater gorge that helps create some of the biggest waves on the planet.

If you happen to be near Nazaré between October and March, then be on the lookout for the waves. We came here in October and stayed for three days, but, unfortunately, those were some of the calmest days ever. The ocean was flat, as you can see, haha!

Even if you visit outside the big wave season, Miradouro das Ondas da Nazaré is still worth a stop. The view of the coastline, the lighthouse, and the endless ocean is stunning any time of year. And you get panoramic views of the town below.

It is an unusual-looking swing with a circular seat hanging in a wooden frame, with its name carved into wood and placed on top of the swing. It actually doesn’t swing at all, haha.

The best part of Baloiço do Monte de São Pedro Fins swing is the view. Located just 20 kilometers North of Braga, the swing overlooks Caires parish in the Braga district.

We experienced the most magical sunset on this hill, and probably that’s why I have such fond memories of this place.

Getting to the swing is quite easy by car. You can drive to the very top of the hill. The road gets preeettty steep, but it is paved, so we had no problems getting there. The swing is located just 100 meters from the parking lot.

While Miradouro da Senhora do Monte is Lisbon’s iconic sunset viewpoint and Jardim do Morro is the most iconic place to watch the sunset in Porto, the region of Algarve also has its own iconic sunset spot – Cabo de São Vicente!

Cabo de São Vicente marks the southwesternmost point of mainland Europe, and is a must-visit place in the Algarve. This dramatic cape offers sweeping views of the Atlantic Ocean and the endless rugged coastal cliffs.

It is also one of the most visited places in Southern Portugal. We came here during the day, and there were food trucks and stalls selling local snacks and souvenirs.

The cape is home to the historic Cabo de São Vicente Lighthouse, which has been guiding ships safely along this coast since the 19th century. It’s one of the most powerful lighthouses in Europe (meaning – you can see its light from verrrrry far away).

If there is one spot you have to go to watch sunset in the Algarve, Cabo de São Vicente is definitely it! Watching the sun drop into the ocean while standing on the edge of Europe does sound surreal, right?

Miradouro do Cervo is one of the most iconic viewpoints in Northern Portugal, located just outside the town of Vila Nova de Cerveira, near the Spanish border.

What’s so iconic about it? The hilltop viewpoint is crowned by a large metal sculpture of a deer (cervo), which has become the symbol of the town and one of the most recognizable landmarks in the Minho region.

From the top, you get breathtaking panoramic views over the Minho River, which separates Portugal from Spain. It was so cool – standing on a hill in Portugal with a view of the beautiful river and seeing the green hills of Spain on the other side of it. Hi, Spain!!

We also stopped by another nearby viewpoint called ‘Miradouro Porta do Espírito Santo’, which is an especially popular place to watch the sunset. Unfortunately, we had to leave, and we couldn’t wait for the golden hues. I’m sure it would have been a spectacular view!

Miradouro do Marcelim, or Observatório da Natureza de Marcelim, is one of the most peaceful and scenic viewpoints in Northern Portugal.

It is located next to a remote village and offers stunning panoramic views of the Bestança River, another tributary of the Douro River.

The viewpoint features a swing, multiple scenic picnic tables, as well as two metal platforms designed to blend with nature and offer an amazing view of the surrounding area.

It’s a bit off the beaten path, which makes it perfect for travelers who want to escape the crowds and experience Portugal’s nature. We were the only ones there when we visited!
