Isla Mujeres is a magical island at the shores of Mexico full of colorful life, beautiful beaches, and tasty food. Here are the best Instagram spots in Isla Mujeres for beautiful photos of this beautiful island.
In this blog post, you will find all the Instagram spots in Isla Mujeres with photos, descriptions, and exact locations where they can be found on Google Maps. Happy travels!
1. Isla Mujeres letters
This place is an obvious choice – these colorful letters with the background of the endless Caribbean sea tell exactly where you are and how it is going because it can only be great in Isla Mujeres!
Try coming here in the morning for the sunrise as this place is on the East coast of the island and will be the first place in Mexico that gets the first sun rays (this island is the farthest place to the East in Mexico)!

2. Playa Norte
Playa Norte is probably one of the main reasons people are traveling to Isla Mujeres – it is definitely the most beautiful beach in Isla Mujeres and allegedly one of the most beautiful beaches in Mexico and even in the World.
It is a white sand beach lined with palm trees and surrounded by the Caribbean crystal clear water! It is definitely one of the best Instagram spots in Isla Mujeres – any corner of this beach is very photogenic!
3. Isla Mujeres swings in the water
I don’t know if a more dreamy scene is even possible – you sitting on the swings in the Caribbean sea and feeling the warm waves of the sea on your skin. Seems like an ultimate dream to me!
There are many swings in the water in Isla Mujeres – at Zama Beach and Lounge, at Muelle 7 restaurant, at Perla Negra shopping mall, at Las Hamacas restaurant (the swings are on the beach), at Kin Há restaurant, at Playa Tiburon restaurant, and at Albatros Beach Club. We went to the latter and enjoyed it very much (there is a day pass of 40 USD for entry).
4. Hammock in the water
Ok, maybe there is a competition to the swings in the Caribbean Sea – lying in a hammock in the warm waves of the Caribbean Sea sounds as dreamy as swinging in the swings, so, obviously, a hammock in the water is amongst the best Instagram spots in Isla Mujeres!
Again – there are many places around the island where you will find hammocks. We got to enjoy this one at the same place as the swings – Albatros Beach Club.

5. Punta Sur – the Southern end of the island
Punta Sur or the South Point is on every tourist attraction list about Isla Mujeres. It is the highest point on the island reaching 20 meters above sea level so you can get some nice views over the Caribbean Sea.
There is a sculpture park at Punta Sur, a beautiful lighthouse, as well as ruins of an ancient Mayan temple and pretty unique coastal cliffs.
Don’t forget to snap a photo of this colorful Punta Sur name and a giant iguana sculpture behind it! There are many iguanas in the area, by the way! There is a small entrance fee to the sculpture park.
6. Sculpture of Goddess Ixchel
Goddess Ixchel in the Mayan culture is the goddess of love and fertility and has healing powers, so she is definitely the main character on the island.
There are two beautiful sculptures of the goddess – one of them is located before the entrance to the sculpture park, but the other one is inside the sculpture park which we liked more and is pictured above.

7. Cliffs of Punta Sur
The Southern part of Isla Mujeres is the complete opposite of the sandy beaches in the North. Punta Sur is all about unique coastal cliffs with interesting structures – they are somewhat porous and spongy. A bit unexpected to see something like this on this island!
There is a cool tunnel when you walk down the stairs at the very end of the island at Punta Sur. If you turn back along the coast then some meters later you will see this tunnel that connects the East and West side of the coast.

8. Punta Sur lighthouse
There are multiple lighthouses on Isla Mujeres Island. Punta Sur lighthouse is one of the picturesque lighthouses there – a white 20-meter building with beautiful blue doors. It is one of the most beautiful Instagram spots in the area for sure. Don’t miss this spot when visiting Punta Sur of Isla Mujeres!

9. Rainbow Stairs
These beautiful rainbow-colored stairs are a hidden gem in Isla Mujeres. They are located in the middle of the island, and you can visit them on your way around the island.
There are multiple words written on the stairs with positive meanings like – honesty, gratitude, cooperation, empathy, optimism, and more. One of the best Instagram spots on Isla Mujeres island and one of my favorite ones for sure!

10. Wooden piers of Isla Mujeres
Those wooden piers stretching into the bliss of the Caribbean Sea are beautiful places for a photo. There are countless wooden piers around the island – especially around the Northern part because many boats want to dock there.
Also, many beach clubs around the island have them. You can just open Google Maps, then switch it to satellite view and zoom in to see where there are small piers stretching into the sea. We got one at the same Albatros Beach Club we visited (actually there are two piers at the beach club).

11. Street art and murals
This is not a surprise but they do love street art and painting murals on the walls in Mexico. And Isla Mujeres is not an exception!
If you take a walk around the narrow streets in the North of the island you will see different street art everywhere. We especially loved walking along Matamoros Street and Avenida Benito Juárez street.
12. Multicolored wooden house
This tiny multicolored wooden house has become one of the best and most famous Instagram spots in Isla Mujeres. It is located on the corner of Matamoros Street and Avenida Benito Juárez Street and is a contrast to the surrounding buildings. Looks really cool!
Although it is now painted yellow, I have seen photos that some year ago it was in pink color! Maybe it will change again!? Let me know if you happen to be there and see a different house!

13. Seashell and fish benches
I loved these benches located next to Perla Negra shopping mall (just walk along the front of the shop – you will see them!)! They are like out of the Pirates of the Caribbean movie, haha!
One of them was decorated with beautiful seashell ornaments while the other one was made out of wooden fish, starfish, and an octopus. We saw another one in the city next to a souvenir shop, so keep your eyes open when you walk around!
Location: Perla Negra shopping mall
14. Fish gate of the Central beach
One of the most beautiful and popular areas and also a place full of the best Instagram spots, of course, is a beach – the Central Beach of Isla Mujeres.
It is the closest to the ferry terminal and faces the bay between Isla Mujeres island and continental Mexico, so it usually has calmer waters.
The beach is beautiful – lined with palm trees and covered with white sand. There is a cool spot for photos – a gate to the beach with two huge fish on the top of arched pillars.

15. Yellow wooden house
There are tons of colorful houses in Isla Mujeres! They do love colors here, haha! This yellow and red wooden house was one of my favorite spots. It stands out really well in the street amongst the other houses. Just be respectful when taking a photo as it is someone’s house and people still live there!

16. Red and white lighthouse shop
There is another secret lighthouse in the streets of Isla Mujeres. At first, I actually thought it was a real lighthouse because we walked by it early in the morning. However, later in the day when it had all the doors and walls open, it revealed itself.
Turns out it was a souvenir shop. Ups! But this huge red and white colored lighthouse looks really cool and is a great Instagram spot if you are looking for unusual and cool places!

17. Unique spots of the Central Square
During your travels to Isla Mujeres, you should not skip visiting the Central Square of Isla Mujeres in the North! There is a beautiful church, there is a basketball field, there was a Christmas tree when we visited in November, and there are lots of people socializing and doing their things. It is full of life!
While walking around we also noticed some unique corners around Central Square like a colorful house with yellow doors that had I ♥ Isla Mujeres engraved on top of them or the flower paintings on another house nearby. Walk around and see if you can find some beautiful Instagram spots!
Isla Mujeres in Mexico is one of those vacation destinations you dream about – palm trees, white sand, turquoise water, colorful houses, and tasty food. A combination of dreams!
Although there is a buzz in the streets of Isla Mujeres, there are still plenty of places to rewind and relax. If you can, please, leave a comment below if there are any significant changes to anything that is written in this blog post! Many thanks!
