Let’s discover the most beautiful Instagram spots in Holbox, Mexico! Holbox is the quintessential tropical island – the one with turquoise water and fine white sand where you wander around barefoot and drink coconuts under palm trees.
We have visited Holbox multiple times and I hope to return there again. Thanks to its position far away from famous tourist hotspots around the Yucatan Peninsula, Holbox still counts as a hidden gem to truly soak in that authentic island life in Mexico.
In this post, you will find the most beautiful Instagram spots in Holbox with descriptions, photos, and locations on the map. I hope you enjoy your time on this idyllic tropical island as much as we did. Happy travels!

1. The colorful Holbox sign
Probably the most popular of all the Instagram spots in Holbox is the iconic Holbox sign with colorful Holbox letters at the beach. Getting that iconic photo at the Holbox sign is a must-do thing for every traveler visiting this beautiful and remote island.
The sign is located right by the main beach in the center and is facing the ocean. As you can see, it is missing the letter L and you are meant to go in and fill out the blank space! I am sure you will do it better than me, haha!
However, it is not the only photo spot with Holbox letters. Another sign is located next to the ferry terminal. It has boats and a port area in the background and some of the letters are decorated with bird-shaped figures. Looks cool!
There is another sign with ‘Isla Holbox’ name next to the ticket offices at the port. This Holbox sign has a huge whale shark figure next to it celebrating this beautiful creature that regularly visits the shores of Holbox Island (mostly from June to September).

2. The colorful stage at Holbox Central Park
One of my favorite Instagram spots in Holbox was the colorful stage at Holbox Central Park. There is a cool white stage in an oval shape with a huge street art mural painted all over it. I loved this spot!
Tip! As with every street art mural, this stage gets re-painted every year or every couple of years so there might be a different painting when you visit. But definitely check this place out when visiting Holbox!

3. Flamingo House at Holbox Central Park
If there is one iconic building in Holbox then it is definitely the so-called Flamingo House located on one of the corners of the Holbox Central Park – right next to the stage!
The Flamingo House all covered with bright colorful paintings was probably the most colorful house in Holbox that we saw! It makes for an ideal location to get those beautiful Holbox photos!
Just like with many other paintings, they re-paint this house every season (see my photos – they are from different years!) but as far as I know, every time they incorporate paintings of flamingos.
There is a restaurant inside this building but I wasn’t convinced enough to eat there, haha! However, you can find my favorite places to eat in Holbox here, and if you feel like it, you can try the Flamingo House restaurant, too!

4. Playa Holbox
The Island of Holbox is famous for its turquoise and tranquil shallow waters, fine white sand, and palm tree-lined tropical beaches. So the beach is the best place for perfect photos! The scenery makes it so easy for you!
One thing I love about Holbox the most is the accessibility of the beach. If you know such places as Cancun, Tulum, or Playa del Carmen, you know that accessing the beach is not always easy as it is often blocked by hotels, beach bars, and clubs.
However, in Holbox, you won’t have any problems finding a beautiful spot on the beach. Miles and miles of white sand beach is all available to you! Long morning beach walks were one of our favorite things to do in Holbox.
Another cool thing about the beach in Holbox is that you can find many cool photo spots – swings, hammocks, cute benches, art installations. However, these things differ from season to season so you better take a walk and check it out yourself!
Location: Playa Holbox
5. Fisherman artwork in the sea
One of the most iconic street art murals in Holbox is the Fisherman artwork on ruins located at the beach. It is just a short 140-yard walk (130 meters) from the Holbox letters at the same beach.
The ruins have all sides painted with murals however the fisherman’s side is the most iconic and stands out the most. It portrays a fisherman with a hat standing next to the sea and tossing a coin. I hope they re-paint this mural – it is beautiful!

6. Playa Punta Cocos
Holbox is one of only a few places in the Quintana Roo state where you can watch the sunset in the sea. Other famous destinations like Cancun, Isla Mujeres, Tulum, Playa del Carmen, and others face the sea to the East.
So one of the best things to do in Holbox is to watch the sunset in the Caribbean Sea. Most of the time throughout the year you can see the sunset from any part of the tiny island but we went to the Westernmost point in Holbox – Playa Punta Cocos.
Playa Punta Cocos is a remote beach and the best way to get there is by golf cart or a bike. You can either rent them or simply hire a golf cart taxi. We actually walked to Playa Punta Cocos and then took a taxi back to town. The sunset was magical!

7. Holbox swings
Swinging on the swings at the beach on a tropical island sounds like such a dream! Luckily for you, Holbox is the quintessential paradise island and we found many beachside swings in Holbox!
We stumbled upon the swings simply by walking along the beach and finding them next to beach clubs or cafes along the way. One thing to know about them is that the beach clubs usually take them down during the off-season or bad weather.
One of my favorite swings was the ‘Dream Holbox’ swings at Carolinda Beach Club. There were actually two pairs of swings right next to each other – one of them had this ‘Dream Holbox’ name but the other swing had the name of the beach club.
Another favorites were the beachside swings at Capitán Capitán Beach Club with their wooden frame, the name ‘Holbox’ on top, and the strings to seashells on both sides.
There was another pair of swings at Carioca’s Restaurant & Beach Club. The swings are at the beach, however, you can use them only during their working hours as they put a fence around them during the night and out of their working hours.
There were multiple swings with ‘Holbox’ name at Mantarraya Beach Club! They were located at the side of the road so anyone could go and take a photo in them! We happened to be there in the morning, so we got that sunrise glow as well.
We found super cute angel wing swings at Holbox Magico Beach Club at Playa Punta Cocos – a great place to hang out while waiting for the sunset. And there were beach swings at Casa Punta Cocos. As you can see – many options to choose from!

8. Hammocks by the beach
Chilling in a hammock by the beach and watching the sunset sounds like a dream! The hammocks are also the most idyllic spots for photos! Can you imagine yourself in one of those?
We saw a couple of places in Holbox with hammocks by the beach or even inside the shallow water of the Caribbean Sea. The ones pictured in the photos above were at Playa Punta Coco.
However, we also saw some at Carolinda Beach Club, at Mantarraya Beach Club & Hammocks, also at Villas El Encanto Holbox (on the beach), and other places. You should note that many places only bring them out during high season.
Location: Playa Punta Coco
9. Photo frame at Café del Mar
Decorated with beautiful seashells and wooden ornaments this iconic photo frame next to a charming beach café Café del Mar was one of my favorite Instagram spots in Holbox.
We stumbled upon this place during one of our strolls along the beach. This is the perfect photo spot where you can beautifully position yourself in the frame with the Caribbean Sea in the background. Iconic!
Location: Café del Mar
10. Calle Caritos – the iconic street of street art
Street art was amongst my favorite Instagram spots in Holbox Island and luckily there are a lot of them around the village.
However, there is one particular street in Holbox that stood out to me the most. Calle Caritos is the king of all streets when it comes to street art!
I recommend starting at the beginning of the street at the beach and then just walking down the street and checking out all the impressive and colorful murals adorning the walls of houses.
When we last visited Holbox, the island had had an art festival prior to our visit and was freshly decorated with bright colorful paintings. Calle Caritos was one of the main spots where the artists worked.
My favorite street art paintings were the fisherman (first photo) and the flower girl (last photo) but honestly there were so many great works. I just can’t publish all of them here, haha!
Holbox is known for its love for street art. The island has been hosting art festivals for more than a decade so checking out street art is one of the top things to do in Holbox Island. Definitely worth it!
Location: Calle Caritos
11. Blue gate at Aldea Kuká Boutique Hotel
During one of our morning walks we stumbled upon the coolest entrance gate ever. This picture-perfect turquoise gate with palm trees at Aldea Kuká Boutique Hotel is actually all over social media and definitely a popular place for photos.
Luckily, you don’t need to be a guest at the hotel to take a photo at the gate. The entrance is located right by the street that goes parallel to the beach and anyone can walk up there for a photo. This tropical color definitely stands out!
Location: Blue Gate at Aldea Kuká Boutique Hotel
12. Hummingbird House
One of the most striking artworks and one of my favorite Instagram spots in Holbox is the so-called Hummingbird House. Who named it? I did. Why?
Because I have visited this place two times in different years (I saw it in 2022 and in 2024) and both times it had different street art but both times it had a hummingbird on it.
Maybe I have a sweet spot for birds but this charming little wooden house became one of my favorite street art spots in Holbox. I’m sure they will repaint it again soon but I hope the little bird stays there!
Location: Hummingbird House
13. Villas El Encanto Holbox
As you wander along the beach you will notice that some beach clubs and bars in Holbox have created nice photo objects like swings or art installations. One place that stood out to me during a beach walk was Villas El Encanto Holbox.
Villas El Encanto Holbox are properties for rent a bit more inland however they had some cool installations on the beach in front of their property. We noticed the coolest seashell gate and country signposts.
The signposts display signs with numerous world countries and distances to them. I am not sure if they are all pointing in the right direction, tho, however, they look pretty cool and make for a unique photo spot in Holbox.
Location: Villas El Encanto Holbox
14. Monas Lisas of Holbox
Out of the countless street murals that you can find on the streets of Holbox there are some that stand out more than others. I found that these striking street arts of girls and women felt particularly special to me.
Just look at their facial expressions! Don’t you think they have something to tell you and you can kind of guess that by the look in their eyes? There is definitely something unusual about all of these paintings. Like Monas Lisas of Holbox!
All the paintings are located in the very center of the island – in the adjacent streets to the Holbox Central Park – so check their locations below and make sure to walk past them!
I love it when art tells a bigger story and this is definitely the case. I really hope they re-paint these girls – they are too unique to be replaced with something else!
Location: Street art of a woman – First girl street art – Second girl street art
15. Overwater bungalow at the beach docks
Out of all the places on the island, the beachside of the central part of the town had the most Instagram spots in Holbox. I really loved this epic street art of an eagle painted on a wooden overwater bungalow.
The bungalow is located right next to the colorful Holbox letters on the beach so you definitely won’t miss it. However, the cute bungalow is in need of reconstruction so I really hope they keep this little house alive and well along with the cool street art.
As I’ve said before, they tend to repaint these kinds of spots every season (because the color wears off) so do check it out – maybe there’s a new painting already in place!
Location: Overwater bungalow
Happy exploring!
Holbox is a hidden paradise in the Gulf of Mexico. This laid-back tropical island with its white sand, shallow turquoise water, and lush palm trees is THE place to go to escape the hustle and bustle of the famous tourist hotspots in the Yucatan Peninsula.
We have visited Holbox multiple times and I hope to visit again soon! Besides our stay in Holbox, we also spent a couple of months traveling around the Yucatán Peninsula and exploring everything this beautiful area had to offer.
From white-sand beaches to dark underground cenotes, and ancient pyramids – there’s just so much to see! I hope you enjoy your time there as much as we did and I hope you get some travel inspiration from this blog post for your travels! Happy travels!
