1. Another Clandestino: Coffee, Bread & Breakfast
Another Clandestino is one of the best places for coffee, brunch, and breakfast in Holbox Island. You can order breakfast from the menu like toasts, bagels, sandwiches, and bowls, or choose some of their pastries and cakes.
They also have freshly baked bread you can get for takeaway!
If you are looking for a place to sit down, enjoy the perfect cup of specialty coffee, eat a nice breakfast, and smell the smell of freshly baked bread, then this is the place to go! Psst…! Try their French toast! It is massive!
Tip! This breakfast restaurant has two spots in Holbox both not too far from each other. We went to Another Clandestino as they have more space.

2. Complemento Coffee Shop Holbox
If you are a specialty coffee guru then Complemento Coffee Shop is the place for you! We came here every morning for our morning coffee – stood outside waiting as workers arrived to work and finally made our coffee, haha!
This espresso bar offers all kinds of coffee drinks and other liquid refreshments for your personal preference.
They also offer different breakfast and brunch options starting from toasts, eggs, hotcakes, sandwiches, smoothie bowls, etc. You will not be disappointed! We as coffee lovers thoroughly enjoyed this place!

3. La Playa De Ñaña – best beach restaurant in Holbox!
Restaurant La Playa De Ñaña is the ultimate lunch place on the beach! The restaurant not only has amazing food but also a tranquil atmosphere with tables under the palm trees and you can sit there soaking your feet in the soft white Holbox sand.
They also have a beach club right there with sunbeds for rent but we only came here for the food.
I opted for burrito rolls that came with potato slices, but my husband went for tacos. We also got guacamole and cocktails. From service to taste and presentation – everything was amazing! Truly!
Located on the beachfront in the center of the town, this highly-rated restaurant is the best place for a relaxing lunch in Holbox. My only regret is that we finally tried this place shortly before we had to leave Holbox. We would have gone again and again!

4. Mr. Happy
Mr. Happy was my favorite breakfast restaurant on Holbox Island and one of the best places to eat in Holbox in general. Starting from the interior design that makes you feel like in an oasis. Wooden chairs and tables, laid-back sofas, plants, and palm trees.
Our coffee was spot on – café latte for me and flat white for my husband.
However, they are known for their famous waffles and they were truly the star of the show! So soft and fluffy! Besides that, they serve all kinds of breakfast and brunch options so definitely include this restaurant in your travel itinerary!

5. Quartieri Holbox
Quartieri Holbox was simply amazing – the perfect place for a nice dinner in Holbox Island! They are known for their Neapolitan pizzas but they also serve pasta and other delicious treats. And, yes, the owner is from Italy!
We loved their contemporary design and very polite service but the food is the star here and that’s how you want it to be when looking for a nice place to eat dinner. Don’t hesitate to come here!

6. Roots Pizzas a La Leña Isla Holbox
There is one dish that has to be on your Holbox bucket list and it is the famous lobster pizza! Holbox Island is famous for its lobster dishes made from freshly caught lobsters right at the shores of the island.
Lobster season in Holbox is from 1 July up until 29 February so there is a high chance of getting that signature dish in Holbox!
Roots Pizzas is amongst the best restaurants in Holbox where you can get this famous dish as well as other pizzas, pasta, and desserts. The restaurant has a nice ambiance – a huge garden with tables under the trees. Charming!

7. Alta Gula
Alta Gula is a trendy Argentinian restaurant in Holbox – the first place we went for dinner when we arrived in Holbox! They offer a wide variety of Argentinian empanadas (yum!), arepas, patacones, milanesas, salads and sandwiches.
When we arrived, the place was packed full of people but we decided to wait as it had tons of great reviews and I’m glad we did so. The food was top quality and super tasty!
Alta Gula is a small trendy place and quickly gets busy. They only have seating at the bar counter and only three small tables at the side of the street which was a downside as we got some dust from passing quad bikes. But the food is worth it!

8. Painapol
In case you are looking for something more light, fresh, healthy, and unique for breakfast or brunch then Painapol is the place to go in Holbox!
You can basically create your own healthy panini or bread sandwich here – you can choose from many different add-ons and toppings to build your order as you wish. The bread comes with a tasty salad as well.
Besides that, they serve fresh juices, smoothies, toasts, and other colorful and creative dishes! I didn’t expect much from this place but was pleasantly surprised by how creative you can be with your own order and how fresh everything was.

9. Chinicuil Tacos + Mezcal Holbox Restaurant
If you are looking for an authentic Mexican restaurant with real Mexican dishes then this is the place. Nothing fancy, no gourmet looks – just Mexican food made in front of your eyes. We had some quesadillas and guacamole and were really happy with that.
During weekends they make barbecue tacos so it is worth trying to go there on Saturdays or Sundays! Sadly, we went on a Sunday, but they didn’t have a BBQ that day. This is a place that is made for locals, not tourists to serve food that is authentic and made after traditional recipes.

10. Street food at the Holbox Central Park
Not always the best food is served at the best and fanciest restaurants. Very often you can get the most unforgettable foods in the streets – at the food stands.
All the best street food in Holbox can be found at Holbox Central Park. At night, after 6 PM many food stands gather around the perimeter of the park and offer freshly made food right in front of your eyes. So what food should you try?
One of the must-try foods in Holbox is the famous marquesita – a thin rolled waffle with fillings like fruit, nutella, caramel, dulce de leche, or even grated cheese if you like (we didn’t!). Our go-to order is marquesita with Nutella and banana!
Another must-try food is quesabirria! We found them in one corner of the park and immediately wanted to try. They are beef with melted cheese folded into a tortilla a little bit bigger than a taco and fried on both sides. Delish!
Another must-stop is at Los Tacos De Barbacoa – a famous taco stand known for their crispy barbeque tacos with melted cheese. You can choose between soft tacos and crispy tacos. We went with crispy and they were so good!
Street food is not only very cheap compared to prices you pay at restaurants but it is also incredibly tasty and made fresh in front of your eyes. Besides, you can order smaller portions so that you can try out many street food dishes at once!
Tip! Remember that the street food stands in Holbox Central Park are only open in the evenings! Go there after 6 PM to be sure!

Holbox is a hidden paradise in the Gulf of Mexico. This laid-back tropical island with its white sand, shallow turquoise water, and lush palm trees is THE place to go to escape the hustle and bustle of the famous tourist hotspots in the Yucatan Peninsula.
We have visited Holbox multiple times and I hope to visit again soon! Besides our stay in Holbox, we also spent a couple of months traveling around the Yucatán Peninsula and exploring everything this beautiful area had to offer.
