Let me share with you the most iconic Instagram spots on the Amalfi Coast, Italy! We’ve spent around six months living in this part of Italy, and I’ve visited all the famous and photo-perfect places on Italy’s so-called Divine Coast!

Famous for its breathtaking nature, historic cliffside villas, panoramic views, and charming villages lined along the pristine waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea, the Amalfi Coast is a place like no other.

Because of its unmatched beauty, it really isn’t hard to find Instagrammable places around here! In this blog post, you’ll find all the most iconic Instagram spots on the Amalfi Coast with photos, descriptions, and locations on Google Maps. Happy travels!

1. Iconic stairs and arches of Duomo di Amalfi

Let’s start with one of my favorite places on the coastline!

The majestic Duomo di Amalfi, or Cathedral of Saint Andrew, located in Piazza del Duomo in Amalfi town, is one of the most iconic landmarks and one of the most iconic Instagram spots on the Amalfi Coast.

It has to be on every Amalfi Coast itinerary!

The cathedral boasts an imposing staircase that leads to the entrance to the cathedral. Climbing these stairs is one of the must-do things to do in Amalfi town! From the top, you get a great overview of the whole Piazza Duomo square!

Amalfi Cathedral is an architectural marvel

The Amalfi Cathedral dates back to the 9th century and was dedicated to Saint Andrew the Apostle, whose bones are buried in a crypt inside the cathedral.

However, the most striking thing about this cathedral is its architecture — the striped façade, arches, and mosaics perfectly reflect Amalfi’s rich and diverse history.

As a powerful maritime republic, Amalfi traded with many nations, and the cathedral showcases that cultural blend – its architecture features a unique mix of Arab-Norman, Gothic, and Baroque styles.

I highly recommend arriving here in the morning!

For the best photos, I highly recommend arriving in Amalfi in the morning before the masses arrive. This square in front of the cathedral is probably the most crowded place I have seen on the Amalfi Coast, and I truly visited everything there was to see!

You can use my photos as inspiration for your own perfect Instagrammable photo!

By the way, you can also purchase a ticket to visit the interior of the cathedral! The ticket also includes a visit to the cathedral’s adjacent Paradise Cloister, as well as the Saint Andrew’s crypt under the church.

Another one of the most iconic Instagram spots on the Amalfi Coast you will find in the clifftop village of Ravello, also known as the City of Music.

To be specific, everyone who visits Ravello comes to see the one and only Villa Cimbrone with its vast gardens, panoramic views, and, of course, the fairytale-like Terrace of Infinity with marble busts lining the cliffside.

It is the ultimate Instagrammable spot on the Amalfi Coast, full of photogenic corners!

The name of the stunning historic villa actually comes from the rocky outcrop where this famous historic estate is located. The rock is known as Cimbronium, so this is where the name comes from.

Originally built back in medieval times, Villa Cimbrone from the 11th century has lived a truly eventful life.

Throughout its existence, it has been a residence for many different influential families until the 1970s, when it was turned into a luxury hotel.

Over the centuries, the villa was rebuilt and extended, and very little remains of the original structure. It features different architectural styles like Gothic, Moorish, and Venetian, combined with English-style landscaping.

You cannot tour the hotel unless you stay there as a guest, but the majority of the property is open to the public (for an entrance fee).

As a visitor, you can visit a cloister, a temple, multiple beautiful gardens, and the famous Terrace of Infinity.

You don’t have to book anything in advance. We arrived in Ravello early in the morning and came to Villa Cimbrone as soon as it opened so we could explore the famous estate without crowds.

For the best photos, I recommend arriving first thing in the morning!

We immediately went to the Terrazza dell’Infinito as it is the most popular place there. Villa Cimbrone has hosted many celebrities and international dignitaries, and many regard the terrace as one of the most beautiful places in Italy.

People like Jacqueline Kennedy, actor Denzel Washington, actress Greta Garbo, as well as Winston Churchill, some members of royalty, and even the surrealist artist Salvador Dalí have all visited the iconic Villa Cimbrone.

After visiting the terrace, we toured the gardens, went to the Temple of Bacchus, and explored the Cloister. It was absolutely breathtaking, especially the panoramic views of the Mediterranean Sea from the famous terrace.

Villa Cimbrone is a true paradise for photographers and features some of the most iconic Instagram spots on the Amalfi Coast. I hope my photos do some justice to the beauty of Villa Cimbrone and serve you as an inspiration for your own photos!

3. Via Cristoforo Colombo in Positano

Via Cristoforo Colombo in Positano
View of Positano from Via Cristoforo Colombo is one of the most famous Instagram spots on the Amalfi Coast

Here comes Positano, one of the most iconic destinations in the world!

I’ll say it plainly: Positano is all about the views. With its colorful houses famously perched on a seaside cliff and stacked one on top of the other, this charming town attracts visitors from all over the world to its unique setting.

There’s no better way to truly soak in Positano’s beauty than finding a scenic restaurant or bar and enjoying a cocktail or lunch with breathtaking views of the town. However, you don’t necessarily have to pay for those views.

You just need to be fit enough to walk up to Via Cristoforo Colombo! Much of this cliffside street offers some of the best views of Positano, including that iconic photo spot you see above (exact GPS coordinates below).

4. The picturesque Fiordo di Furore

The iconic bridge at Fiordo di Furore

I’m sure you’ve seen this deep and narrow cove all over the internet – it is one of the most famous spots on the Amalfi Coast. Welcome to Fiordo di Furore, often referred to as the southernmost fjord in Europe!

Despite its name (fiordo=fjord), technically it is not a fjord, because fjords are formed by glaciers, but this fjord-like gorge was formed by a river.

Nevertheless, this place is pure beauty and is easily one of the most picture-perfect places you will find on the Amalfi Coast!

Amalfi Coast, Italy-Fiordo di Furore
This narrow gorge is a popular swimming spot

A 30-meter arched bridge goes over the gorge

Thanks to its dramatic cliffs, 30-meter arched bridge, fishermen’s houses built inside the rock, and pristine waters washing the tiny pebble beach, Fiordo di Furore has become a landmark place to visit on the Amalfi Coast.

Because of its unique setting, Fiordo di Furore regularly hosts an extreme diving competition with athletes jumping from the iconic bridge! Pretty crazy!

The easiest way to get to Fiordo di Furore is by SITA SUD public bus – there is a bus stop right on top of the bridge. Then just follow a steep, narrow stairway down to the beach.

We had a car, so we drove to Marina di Praia, parked our car there, and then walked all the way to Fiordo di Furore (it’s a 10-15 minute walk). If you rent a scooter, you will definitely find some parking spots along the road, much closer to the fjord.

Because of its surrounding rugged cliffs, the sun only shines inside the fjord for a couple of hours during the day, so this place has a pleasant microclimate and shade, especially when the summer heat hits!

Whether you visit Fiordo di Furore to spend the day by the beach or just come to check out its picturesque location and take some iconic photos, you will definitely be impressed by how special this unique place is.

5. The iconic beach view in Atrani

Atrani, Italy-overlook of the Atrani town of Italys Amalfi Coast
Atrani is one of the most beautiful places on the Amalfi Coast

Atrani is my favorite place on the Amalfi Coast. Known as the smallest town in Italy (only 0.12 square kilometers or 0.05 square miles), it gets completely overlooked by most visitors to the Amalfi Coast.

To be honest, I’m not mad about it at all! It is always nice to escape the buzz of Amalfi town and walk 10 minutes to the charming Atrani and find it so peaceful, but equally beautiful.

The town is so small that you can visit Atrani in just a few hours. But even if you don’t have that much time, the most iconic part will be right in front of you as you walk towards it – the iconic Atrani beach view!

Spiaggia di Atrani or Atrani Beach is one of the most beautiful places on the Amalfi Coast. It is largely thanks to its dramatic scenery with flanking cliffs and the iconic arcade lining the beachside.

The combination of this view makes this place one of the most iconic Instagram spots on the Amalfi Coast. No wonder this place has been a filming location for many TV series and movies.

There are a couple of spots you can choose from to take a beautiful photo of this beach view. One spot is right from the beach, but you’ll have to arrive early before the crowds wake up to take a crowd-free photo.

The next Atrani photo spot is on Via Gabriele di Benedetto, right next to the Amalfi Drive road, with a nice overview of the beach, and the third spot that we found by accident is on a small balcony we found by climbing the stairs from the Amalfi Drive road.

You choose! The view will be beautiful either way!

6. View of Amalfi from the fishing pier

Amalfi Town, Italy-postcard view of Amalfi from the fishing pier
I loved seeing postcard views of Amalfi town from the sea!

Talking about iconic postcard views on the Amalfi Coast, you don’t have to look further than Amalfi town itself! Did you know that Amalfi has a long, beautiful fishing pier stretching into the sea?

I don’t know if anyone uses it for fishing, but I know for sure that this place makes for some of the most iconic Instagram photos you will take on the Amalfi Coast! Just look at the scenery!

To get such photos, you need to walk all the way to the very end of Amalfi’s fishing pier and turn around to face the town. From here, you will be treated to one of the most beautiful postcard views of Amalfi and the mountains behind it.

We came here in the morning before the town was overrun by tourists and spent some time soaking up the sun, watching a small boat fill with people and float away, and taking a few nice photos of the town. It was time well spent for sure!

7. The gardens and cloisters of Villa Rufolo in Ravello

One of the most famous tourist attractions not only in the town of Ravello but in the whole Amalfi Coast is Villa Rufolo, a vast 13th-century estate built by the wealthy Rufolo family, who were influential merchants in this area.

Today, this estate is open to the public (for an entrance fee) and hosts different local events. It is one of the main sites for the famous Ravello Music Festival, which takes place every year during the summer months.

Apart from that, this place also hosts perfect views of the coastline and some of the most iconic Instagram spots on the Amalfi Coast! Just check out the photos!

We got to explore the vibrant terraced gardens with panoramic Amalfi Coast views, saw the cloister, and climbed the medieval Torre Maggiore tower. But there is one especially unique place in Villa Rufolo.

Located inside the gardens is a small viewpoint that overlooks an iconic view – the towers of the Church of Saint Mary of Grace, with an iconic pine tree and the scenic view of the Amalfi Coast in the background.

This is one of the most famous and recognizable postcard views of the Amalfi Coast and one of the most photographed places in Italy (see the first photo!). This medieval villa truly was worth one hour of our time!

Location: Villa Rufolo

8. Spiaggia di Positano

Amalfi Coast, Italy-Spiaggia di Positano
Spiaggia Grande in Positano is one of the best photo spots on the Amalfi Coast

Positano beach, or Spiaggia di Positano, was one of my favorite locations in the iconic village, and it is one of the most photographed places on the Amalfi Coast.

I mean, just look at this iconic view with lines of beach umbrellas and the hill of Positano in the background! It is, without a doubt, one of the best photo spots on the coast.

Apart from iconic photos, the main beach in Positano is also a fantastic place to go for a swim. The scenic location and the clear waters of the Mediterranean Sea make it a one-of-a-kind spot for a beach day.

Like everywhere else in the area, part of the beach is a paid section where you have to rent a beach chair and an umbrella, but there is also a smaller part of the beach that is accessible for free.

It does get busy during the day, so the best time to come here would be in the morning hours.

Location: Spiaggia di Positano

9. The white church of Chiesa di San Salvatore in Atrani

Atrani, Italy-Church of Saint Salvador De' Birecto in Atrani
The Church of San Salvatore de Birecto was one of my favorite places to visit in Atrani

This unique white Church of Saint Salvador De’ Birecto in Atrani village is a hidden gem not many tourists know about; however, it is one of my favorite places on the Amalfi Coast and also one of the best Instagram photo spots on the coastline.

For those of you who love historical places, this is a must-visit location! Dating back to the 10th century, this church is probably the most significant historical landmark in Atrani!

The most unique part of this church is that it has a long white staircase leading to the entrance – a feature that historically protected the building from flooding.

The church played an especially crucial role during the 10th-11th centuries when the Duchy of Amalfi or the Republic of Amalfi was an independent country.

At that time, the Duchy of Amalfi was ruled by the Duke of Amalfi, who was crowned, right here on the steps of this church! Atrani still celebrates yearly events, with people dressing in medieval gowns and ‘crowning’ the new Duke at the church stairs.

A cool way to preserve history and tradition!

For the best photo, I recommend having the photographer stand on the Amaldi Drive road (the main road that goes along the coastline) and take the perfect shot from above with the towering cliffs in the background. Looks so epic!

10. Path of the Gods, or Sentiero degli Dei

Amalfi Coast, Italy-Path of the Gods, or Sentiero degli Dei
Hiking the Path of the Gods is one of the best things to do on the Amalfi Coast

Path of the Gods is the most famous hike on the Amalfi Coast and one of the most breathtaking hikes in the world! Did you even visit the Amalfi Coast if you didn’t hike this trail?

Well, we did.

Essentially, the Path of the Gods is an ancient pathway in the mountains of the Sorrento peninsula that connects two mountain towns.

Amalfi Coast, Italy-Path of the Gods, or Sentiero degli Dei
We started in the early morning to avoid the midday heat
Amalfi Coast, Italy-Path of the Gods, or Sentiero degli Dei
The hike offers great views of the Amalfi Coast

The hike starts in the center of Bomerano hamlet in Agerola, and finishes in Nocelle village right above Positano. However, these days people hike many different versions of this hike, like Bomerano-Positano or Praiano-Positano, etc.

For us, we had to get back to our car, so we hiked from Bomerano to Nocelle and then walked all the way back. It was a moderate difficulty 12.3-kilometer or 7.6-mile out-and-back hike that took us 3h 30min. We did the hike in the morning to avoid the midday heat.

Whichever route you decide to go, you need to plan how to get back to where you need to be.

Fantastic coastline views during Sentiero degli Dei hike

When we reached Nocelle (our halfway mark), there was a beautiful little café where we got to have breakfast sandwiches with a nice view.

By the way, if we wanted to finish in Positano, it would be a steep climb down the stairs to the beach. But there is also an option to take a taxi or to wait for the public bus to take you down to Positano.

Either way, you should know that you have options.

Halfway point in Nocelle. Now, back to our car!

Why do so many people hike this trail? Definitely for the views. The Amalfi Coast is often referred to as the Divine Coast and is known for its breathtaking beauty. Imagine seeing it all from above! That’s exactly the reason to do this hike!

So, where are the best views (and best photo spots!) along the Path of the Gods?

Honestly, the hike took us so long because I was taking pictures like crazy. The whole trail offers breathtaking views.

We spent like 30 minutes taking photos here, haha

Majestic Positano views during the hike

But I have to admit that the most impressive part of the trail is closer to Positano, where you can see the majestic cliffside village in the distance and the dramatic mountains behind it. The section between Praiano and Nocelle is the best part.

There was one extra special spot where we spent the most time snapping photos (see the first photo), and I have linked it below.

If you have a chance to walk the Path of the Gods, I highly recommend doing it! Memories for a lifetime!

11. The 13th-century Paradise Cloister in Amalfi

Amalfi Town, Italy-Moorish style Paradise Cloister or Chiostro del Paradiso in Amalfi town
The photo-perfect Paradise Cloister is one of the most Instagrammable places in Amalfi

Chiostro del Paradiso, or Cloister of Paradise, is one of the most beautiful places to visit on the Amalfi Coast, and a must-visit place in Amalfi town.

The cloister dates back to the 13th century, when it was built and served as a burial place for noble families in the town. Today, you can stroll through and admire the cloister for an entrance fee of a couple of euros.

The cloister is also the perfect spot for unique and cool photos. Just look at those white columns and arches! You can get very creative here with your photos!

It is definitely worth seeing the Paradise Cloister

The Cloister of Paradise sits right next to the cathedral. You can access it by climbing up the Duomo di Amalfi stairs and, once you’re at the top, turning left to the entrance of the cloister.

When inside, you can stroll through a fairytale-like courtyard lined with white Moorish-style arches and columns (my favorite place), as well as a stunning crypt, and have access to the interior of the cathedral, too.

We came here in the morning, and it wasn’t crowded at all.

Strolling the cloister was one of my favorite things to do in Amalfi. Architecture lovers, history buffs, and art lovers will absolutely love this place.

The cloister stands out as one of the most photogenic places in Amalfi; however, the crypt underground as well as the main nave of the cathedral will take your breath away with their painted ceilings and gilded columns.

Such a beautiful place and even a bit otherworldly!

12. Belvedere Cimitero viewpoint in Amalfi

Belvedere Cimitero is one of the best spots to see the town of Amalfi from above

Another photo-perfect place in Amalfi is the Belvedere Cimitero viewpoint right next to Amalfi’s cemetery. I love seeing places from above, so exploring the breathtaking views this viewpoint offers was one of my favorite things to do in Amalfi town.

After visiting all the iconic villages along the Amalfi Coast, I realized that somehow the best viewpoints are located next to cemeteries. Amalfi town is no exception, haha.

The Belvedere Cimitero viewpoint is located along the path leading to Amalfi’s cemetery, but you don’t need to go inside there! The views are right before it!

Do you see the iconic tower of Duomo di Amalfi?

You can reach this viewpoint on foot by climbing stairs behind the cathedral, or by climbing different stairs located by the beach. Both will take you there!

It’s a hot climb, but super rewarding. Those views (and the photos you will take) are worth it!

If you are not able to climb, there is also another option to get there. Located inside the pedestrian tunnel is a lift up to the cemetery. But it is a paid service, so you would have to buy a ticket for that.

The Belvedere Cimitero viewpoint offers amazing views of the whole town, the Amalfi port, as well as the mountains and the rugged coastline. The area is surrounded by lemon trees and plants.

It really can’t get more scenic than this!

And, to be honest, we needed that climb after all the eating we did in Amalfi town, haha. Traveling is not for the weak, especially traveling around the Amalfi Coast! I will forever remember all those stairs.

Magical sunrise views over Atrani from the ‘Stairway to Heaven’

If there is one thing you absolutely must do in Atrani (if you are physically able), then it is climbing Atrani’s very own Stairway to Heaven. For what? For views, of course!

The stairway is basically a street with steps, and you can access it either from the Piazza Umberto I square or from the Amalfi Drive road next to the tunnel. Just follow the signs that point in the direction of a sanctuary.

Once you get through the initial maze of stairs, tunnels, and buildings, the stairs will then continue uphill until you find yourself standing well above the rooftops of the whole town.

This is one of the best places to see Atrani from above, and the view is truly spectacular!

Atrani, with its iconic church and colorful buildings squeezed between two cliffs, is easily one of the most scenic places on the Amalfi Coast, and the view from above will make for some great photos. That is, if you are brave enough to climb this high! Are you?

14. Stairs down to Church of St. Mary Magdalene in Atrani

View of the church from the Atrani-Ravello stairs

Talking about climbing stairs, there is another classic shot you might want to photograph while visiting Atrani – the view of the Collegiate Church of Santa Maria Maddalena seen from the Atrani-Ravello stairs!

Built on a cliffside back in the 13th century, this church in Atrani has long been one of the most recognizable symbols of the smallest town in Italy.

The iconic Santa Maria Maddalena Church boasts a green-tiled dome as well as a striking 16th-century multi-level bell tower. What a sight!

However, my favorite thing about this iconic church is the sea views from its terrace. From there, you can take in almost the entire Amalfi Coast and take great photos as well.

You can reach the church by taking the staircase leading to Ravello that starts from the Piazza Umberto I square in Atrani (just follow the signs to Ravello).

To get a photo from above, you’ll have to continue climbing past the church until you get a great overview of this place. The best view does come after a hard climb, doesn’t it?

15. Scenic Church of Saint Januarius in Praiano

Amalfi Coast, Italy-Scenic Church of Saint Januarius in Praiano
Chiesa Parrocchiale di San Gennaro in Praiano

I gotta say – they loved building churches in the most scenic location here on the Amalfi Coast! And the charming Chiesa Parrocchiale di San Gennaro in Praiano village is no exception!

If you are one of those travelers who chose to stay in a hotel in Praiano, right between Positano and Amalfi, two most famous destinations on the coastline – then good for you! Praiano is home to some truly amazing places!

One of them is the gorgeous yellow Church of Saint Januarius!

You get panoramic views from the church’s square

The landmark Church of Saint Januarius majestically sits on a hillside overlooking the pristine waters of the Mediterranean Sea and the rugged mountains of the Sorrento Peninsula.

The Baroque church is dedicated to San Gennaro, the patron saint of Praiano, and boasts a yellow color and a striking majolica-tiled dome that you can see from far away.

Although the 16th-century church looks picture-perfect from every angle, there is something else that caught my eye. The church sits on a large cliffside square, the heart of Praiano village, with panoramic views of the whole coastline.

If you look over, you will easily notice Positano village in the distance as well as Li Galli islands, and maybe even Capri Island.

Capri actually looks like the continuation of the Sorrento Peninsula from here, but if you look closely enough, you’ll easily distinguish it.

We spent a few days exploring Praiano, and this square in the heart of the village was my favorite place to be. The square floor is also adorned with colorful mosaics and looks fantastic. For the best pictures in Praiano, head right to this square!

Sentiero dei Limoni, or Path of the Lemons, is a historical path that connects two neighbouring towns – Minori and Maiori. It is one of the famous hikes along the Amalfi Coast.

The scenic coastal path is only 2 kilometers or 1.3 miles long (one way), which is a manageable distance for travelers of different fitness levels. However, it goes over a 100-meter-high hill between the two towns, so there will be some climbing involved.

The best part about it? Definitely the views and the unique and scenic locations for amazing photos!

We did this hike starting from Maiori town. The hike starts next to the Santuario Santa Maria a Mare church in Maiori and finishes down in Minori town.

We then explored Minori for a bit and walked by the coastal road back to Maiori.

The famous hike boasts panoramic views of the coastline and the Tyrrhenian Sea, as well as the surrounding lemon groves, where you can walk under the local pride and joy – the famous Amalfi lemons (sfusato amalfitano).

The path is mostly paved and historically was created to transport lemons and other goods between the two twin towns. Even today, donkeys are used as a means of transportation along the path. We saw them during our hike!

Around the midway point, there was a small lemon farm with a bar where they offered lemon granita or lemonade. We stopped here to sit down under the lemon trees to have a glass of each. I recommend their lemon granita. It was very good!

My favorite photo spots? Definitely at the start of the hike in Maiori next to the church with two tiled domes, and the other one in the Belvedere Mortella viewpoint overlooking Minori town (both photo locations below).

The most beautiful street in the old town!

Vietri sul Mare is one of the villages along the Amalfi Coast known primarily for its ceramics production. I know you can buy ceramics in basically every village, but nothing can compare with Vietri sul Mare!

If you only do one thing in Vietri sul Mare, it has to be strolling along Corso Umberto I, the main ceramics street in the village, filled with countless independent manufacturers’ ceramic shops.

I couldn’t even count all of them – there are so many of them! But what I did notice was that all of them have the most stunning, photo-perfect entrances.

Like, how cute are they?

These little stores are adorned with painted ceramic tiles, pots, plates, flowers, and other ceramic design elements, making the whole street a joyful spectacle.

These small shops are also a great Instagram photo spot in the village, but for the best photos, I recommend arriving in the morning before the street gets too crowded.

They sell everything from Christmas ornaments to every possible kitchen item – all made of ceramics. Of course, the most popular items are mugs, plates, and bowls.

I hope you won’t only take pictures, but also buy something!

The Corso Umberto I street is not long, so I highly recommend walking all the way from one end to the other. We walked the street there and back. The first time we checked out everything, and the second time we bought some goodies to take home.

Well, if you are in Vietri sul Mare, you might as well visit another place in this small town – Casa Colorata, probably the most colorful house on the Amalfi Coast.

Normally, you would see buildings around the Amalfi Coast painted in pastel hues, so this unique building in Vietri sul Mare is made to stand out.

The vibrant Casa Colorata is painted in bright tones of blue and pink, and it is decorated with ceramic tiles and other ceramic decor – a nod to the town’s rich tradition in ceramics.

Located right by the seaside promenade, Casa Colorata is easy to access, making it the perfect spot for that must-have photo of this iconic, cartoon-like building.

We haven’t seen anything like it in any other town along the Amalfi Coast!

Casa Colorata is a residential building, so be mindful of others who live there. The house has a tunnel leading to the seaside.

If you like cute, colorful places, this will be one of your favorite Instagram spots on the Amalfi Coast!

19. Villa Comunale di Sorrento

Sorrento, Italy-Villa Comunale di Sorrento
Villa Comunale di Sorrento offers wonderful views of the Gulf of Naples and Mount Vesuvius

Most of the Amalfi Coast visitors don’t stay in villages along the coastline. Many travelers choose Sorrento as a base during their vacation, because this place offers more affordable accommodation, and is well connected to other popular destinations in the area.

So it made sense to include some Instagram spots in Sorrento, too.

I’ll start with one of the most iconic locations in Sorrento: Villa Comunale di Sorrento. This fantastic 19th-century seaside garden is one of the most popular places to visit in Sorrento and is often referred to as ‘the balcony of the city.’

Once you arrive there, you’ll understand why!

Villa Comunale di Sorrento is the perfect sunset spot

Sorrento sits on a high seaside cliff, and Villa Comunale di Sorrento public park is located right by the cliffside, offering sweeping views of the Bay of Naples, including the majestic Mount Vesuvius volcano.

We came here both during the day and at sunset to watch the sun slide down the horizon into the Mediterranean Sea (see photos above!). It was magical both during the day and at sunset.

The views from this place are simply unbeatable and offer plenty of photo opportunities. But here’s a tip: if Villa Comunale di Sorrento is simply too crowded, try checking out Piazza della Vittoria right nearby. It’s another charming seaside park and might be less busy!

20. The charming Marina Grande in Sorrento

And finally, I’ll finish with my favorite place in Sorrento – Marina Grande!

Marina Grande is a small fishing village adjacent to Sorrento and is known for its relaxed atmosphere, free sandy beach, seaside restaurants, as well as colorful houses lining the shore.

The scenic views, the charming vibes – all of this makes Marina Grande one of the most picturesque places on the peninsula, and will provide you with many photo opportunities.

My favorite place? Definitely the stairs on Via Marina Grande right by the sea, where you can see the whole bay with the prettiest colorful houses in the background (see first photo).

Besides charming fishermen’s boats floating in the water, what I liked most about Marina Grande is that there are plenty of seaside restaurants lining the beach, especially places that won’t break the bank.

We came here for dinner right around sunset time, and it was one of my favorite dinners from our trip. The waves were washing the shore, the sun was setting, and we were sipping wine and eating pasta. Pure bliss.

I can’t pinpoint it, but this place just feels different.

It’s just the quintessential Italian postcard village by the Mediterranean Sea. There is nothing world-famous to see here, but you definitely don’t need that for a place to be absolutely wonderful.

So, in case you find yourself wandering around Sorrento, head straight to Marina Grande. It’s a special place to be, plus you’ll take some cool photos along the way.

Happy exploring!

The Amalfi Coast, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is known for its natural beauty, scenic views, and beautiful architecture. I haven’t been everywhere, but it has to be one of the most picturesque spots on our planet!

We spent half a year living in and exploring the area on and around the Amalfi Coast. It’s easy to see why this region has drawn everyone from simple fishermen to Roman emperors to its shores for thousands of years.

I hope you find some travel inspiration in this Amalfi Coast guide—and that you enjoy your time on Italy’s Divine Coast as much as we did. The beaches, the views, the villages, the food… it’s a place you’ll never forget!
