25 best Instagram spots of the most beautiful places in Holbox, Mexico

Holbox is a dreamy tropical island on the shores of the Yucatán Peninsula. The place to soak in the authentic fishing village life away from the buzz of famous tourist destinations.

1. Holbox sign at the beach

Getting that iconic photo at the Holbox sign by the beach is a must when visiting this beautiful island. The sign is located right by the main beach in the center and is facing the ocean.

And it is missing the letter L. Meaning, you should go and fill out the blank space! I am sure you will do it better than me, haha!

2. Holbox sign at the ferry terminal

As soon as you get off the ferry that took you to Holbox Island and walk towards the town there will be a Holbox sign on your right. The sign has a background of the port and looks quite fun as it has different illustrations (like flamingoes) in between the letters. There are nice benches along the promenade where you can sit down.

3. The colorful stage at Holbox Central Park

One of my favorite Instagram spots in Holbox was the colorful stage at Holbox Central Park. The stage is beautiful on its own as it is completely white and has an oval-shaped backstage structure. However, the most fun part is that the back of the stage is painted with murals. I loved this spot!

4. Fisherman artwork in the sea

One of the best street art murals in Holbox is the Fisherman artwork on ruins located in the sea (close to the beach). The ruins have all sides painted with murals however the fisherman’s side is the most notable and stands out the most. It portrays a fisherman with a hat standing next to the sea and tossing a coin.

5. Pink hummingbird house

One of the most striking artworks and one of my favorite Instagram spots in Holbox is the pink hummingbird house. The whole house is painted bright pink with a huge hummingbird on one of the walls.

I have to warn you that the street murals on houses quite quickly lose color and get re-painted (sometimes with something else), but I really hope that this building stays the same!

6. Holbox swings at Capitán Capitán Beach Club

There are many beachside swings in Holbox, but these swings with Holbox’s name at Capitán Capitán Beach Club were probably one of my favorites. Despite the missing letter in the ‘Holbox’ name on top, hehe.

I have to mention that they removed the swing part during the night so as we arrived at this place early in the morning, we only had the frame. However, the wooden frame with seashell ornaments is the most beautiful part of it anyway!

7. Overwater bungalow at the beach docks

Next to the Holbox sign at the beach, you will see wooden docks for boats as well as a wooden overwater bungalow. I am pretty sure nobody lives there, haha, and it might just serve as a post for beach lifeguards or something like that.

However, there is a beautifully painted wall on the bungalow and it is a great Instagram spot in Holbox. I am pretty sure that this painting will change over time, so check this place out to see what kind of painting there is at the moment of your visit!

8. Flamingo house at Holbox Central Park

This beautiful Flamingo house at Holbox Central Park was probably the most colorful house in Holbox that we saw! It was quite funny because we arrived at this house on the first day of our visit and took a photo of it.

However, the next day we noticed that it had been painted in blue color over the old painting! The day after that, it had brand-new artwork painted on it, haha!

So we visited this building at the right moment – to see it freshly painted and ready for the season. I think they re-new their street art every year if not more often!

9. Country signposts at Villas El Encanto Holbox

One of my favorite Instagram spots in Holbox was these country signposts at the beach near Villas El Encanto Holbox. There are two pretty huge signposts with numerous countries and distances to them.

I am not sure if they are all pointing in the right direction, tho, however, they look pretty cool and are a fantastic photo place in Holbox.

10. Seashell gate at Villas El Encanto Holbox

Another beautiful place right next to the country signposts is this seashell gate right by the road that goes parallel to the beach.

I loved how tropical it looked and how many seashells were decorating this wooden entrance to the beach. Definitely check out this spot!

11. Holbox swings at Mantarraya Beach Club

These multiple swings with Holbox name at the beach near Mantarraya Beach Club is a true gem! They are located at the side of the road so anyone can go and take a quick photo in them!

The most catchy part is that they have Holbox letters on top of them and the beautiful background of the Caribbean Sea. Beautiful! We happened to be there in the morning, so we got that sunrise glow as well.

12. Frame at Café del Mar

There is a beach café – Café del Mar – with the most beautiful photo frame next to them. Decorated with seashells and wooden ornaments this frame was one of my favorite Instagram spots in Holbox. You can easily position yourself in the frame and get the Caribbean Sea as a background. A unique spot for sure!

13. Wooden docks at Playa Punta Cocos

One of the most interesting places in Holbox is definitely Playa Punta Cocos – a remote beach on the West side of Holbox Island. The most unique part of this place is that you can actually watch the sunset in the sea from here.

In most parts of popular beaches in the Yucatán Peninsula like in Cancun, Playa del Carmen, and Tulum you can only really watch the sunrise in the sea so this is a pretty unique spot. Definitely a must-visit!

14. Angel wing swings at Holbox Magico

If you come to the beach at Punta Cocos then don’t miss the opportunity to visit Holbox Magico! They are a small beach club on the shores of the sea – another wonderful place to watch the sunset. I particularly liked these pink angel wing swings next to the bar!

15. Dream swings at Carolinda Beach Club

These dream swings at Carolinda Beach Club were one of my favorite swings in Holbox and definitely one of the best Instagram spots in Holbox!

There are actually two pairs of swings right next to each other – one of them has this ‘dream Holbox’ writing on it, but the other pair of swings has the name of the beach club on it – Carolinda.

I am pretty sure that they change the location of the swings during the season – sometimes they are more in the water, but sometimes closer to the shore. Go check for yourself!

16. Turtle wall street art

One of the most striking artworks in the streets of Holbox is definitely the huge turtle wall. The turtle has been painted on a giant two-story building in the center of Holbox. You will definitely not miss this massive painting in case you are looking for it.

17. Blue gate at Aldea Kuká Boutique Hotel

One of the most unusual Instagram spots in Holbox is definitely a beautiful one – this gate of Aldea Kuká Boutique Hotel is seen all over Instagram if you look for Holbox photos by hashtags or by location.

You don’t need to be a guest at the hotel to take a photo at the gate as it is right by the street that goes parallel to the beach. This color definitely stands out!

18. Playa Holbox beach

Holbox Island is famous for its turquoise and tranquil shallow waters, white sand, and palm trees – like a tropical paradise! So definitely don’t forget to take a beautiful photo by the beach!

The beach is accessible almost everywhere – a long, long stretch of white sand available to you. So you won’t have any problems finding a beautiful spot!

19. Whale shark sign at the ferry terminal

There is a beautiful Holbox sign with a huge whale shark figure right next to the ferry terminal which is another great photo place right when you arrive at the island (or right before you leave!).

Whale sharks are very popular around this area in the Yucatán Peninsula and you can find many tours offering swimming with whale sharks in Holbox (mostly from June to September when they arrive at the shores of the Yucatán Peninsula).

20. Street murals of girls

Out of the countless street murals that you can find on the streets of Holbox there are some that stand out more than others. I found that these striking street arts of girls are particularly special.

Definitely love their strong facial features and facial expressions! These two are located in the very center of the island so you will definitely walk past them!

21. Heart-shaped world map and benches

Right at the beach of Holbox near the central area of the island, you will also find such cute photo spots like a heart-shaped world map (pictured above) and benches (we saw multiple benches near the heart-shaped map) with illustrations.

They are located near all the central beach cafes and beach clubs (the exact location is below. However, it might change depending on the tourist season.

22. Beach swings at Carioca’s Restaurant & Beach Club

Another beautiful pair of swings in Holbox Island is located at Carioca’s Restaurant & Beach Club. The swings are at the beach, however, you can use them only during their working hours as they put a fence around them during the night and out of their working hours.

23. Woman empowerment street art

Another quite striking street art mural is on the corner right at Holbox Central Park. It is a headshot of a senior woman decorated with different phrases of woman empowerment and equality. I love such expressive murals that tell a bigger story!

24. Hammocks by the beach

Hammocks by the beach or even in the water are also among the best Instagram spots in Holbox! There are many different places – mostly beach clubs – where you will wind hammocks by the beach or even in the water.

Although we visited all these places at the beginning of December still not many beach clubs had them on the beach. I suppose most beach clubs might put them up during the high season.

We found these hammocks at Punta Coco Restaurant Bar. I have seen them also at Carolinda Beach Club, at Mantarraya Beach Club & Hammocks, also at Villas El Encanto Holbox (on the beach), and other places.

25. Streets of the jungle in Holbox

Here is another photo idea – the jungle streets of Holbox! There are some especially cool streets surrounded by lush green plants that lead to the beach and you can see the Caribbean sea at the end of the street. I love such spots! Looks so cool – like a jungle path to the turquoise waters of the Caribbean!
