Looking for the best pastel de nata in Porto? You’re in the right place. Porto is one of the best cities to visit in Portugal, and no visit to Porto would be complete without trying the famous Portuguese custard tarts!
We’ve spent a lot of time in Porto over the years, and trying different natas became a daily ritual for us. Warm, fresh, crunchy, creamy – we tried them all. It’s pretty easy to get addicted once you start tasting your way around the city, haha!
In this blog post, you’ll find the best spots for pastel de nata in Porto, with descriptions, photos, and exact locations so you can easily add them to your Portugal itinerary. Happy tasting, and good luck picking your favorite!
1. Castro – Atelier de Pastéis de Nata

If you are looking for an excellent pastel de nata in Porto, then head right to the Atelier de Pastéis de Nata Castro workshop!
Located in the heart of Porto’s old town, just steps away from such landmarks as Porto Cathedral and Palácio da Bolsa, this place is a must-visit during your trip to Porto!
This was our go-to pastel de nata spot in Porto during our stay in the city. Their natas are a perfection – soft, but crunchy, sweet, but not too much, and, the most important part, they are sold warm. Those custard tarts just melt in your mouth!
The space itself is beautiful with a clean, modern, and elegant look. You can order pastel de nata to eat there with a cup of coffee or chocolate, or you can get a box to go.
Castro gets a lot of love from both locals and travelers because their natas are consistently excellent. We’ve been to Porto multiple times, and overall, we’ve bought at least 10 boxes of natas from them. They’re that good!
Location: Castro – Atelier de Pastéis de Nata
2. Manteigaria

Another top-tier spot to get a pastel de nata in Porto is Manteigaria. They have multiple locations in the city, but I recommend going to the one on Rua de Alexandre Braga, right next to Mercado do Bolhão market. That’s where we went!
I think this was one of the largest pastel de nata shops I had visited, haha! Honestly, you can’t go wrong with Manteigaria. Inspired by the original recipe, they offer one of the best pastel de nata in the country.
What I love about them is that they really focus on getting their nata right – the crust is buttery and crunchy, while the custard inside is silky and slightly sweet. I can find no fault with them, ever!

The most interesting part is that they have an open kitchen, and you can watch how they make the next batch right there behind a glass wall. And they constantly make new batches, as they are super popular among locals and tourists.
Getting your natas warm makes all the difference in the world, and Manteigaria is the right place to go if you want them perfect. In this location, they offer numerous tables where you can sit down and enjoy your nata with a cup of coffee or tea.
They have shops in Lisbon, too, and, during our stay there, we mostly got our daily dose of pastel de nata in Lisbon right from Manteigaria! If you’re on a pastel de nata hunt in Porto, adding Manteigaria to your bucket list is a no-brainer. They’re perfect!

3. Natas d’Ouro

Time for something special! How does lemon pastel de nata sound? Or orange, chocolate, or even port wine pastel de nata?
If you’re exploring Porto’s downtown (Baixa) and want a pastel de nata that feels both traditional and a little special, Natas d’Ouro is a must-stop.
Their natas are outstanding with light, flaky crust, rich and creamy custard filling, and just the right amount of sweetness. However, what makes them stand out is that they offer pastel de nata with unique flavors.
Apart from the original version (which was delicious), you can try several different pastel de nata flavors – something I only saw at this pastry shop in Porto.
The place has a calm, not-too-touristy vibe, so you can sit down and enjoy them at a table or grab a box to go with one of each flavor. That’s what we did, since we couldn’t eat all of them on the spot, haha!
It’s definitely one of the most unique hidden gems in Porto, so if you love trying new foods, make sure to add this place to your pastel de nata hunting list!
Location: Natas d’Ouro
4. Fábrica da Nata

If you’re wandering along Rua de Santa Catarina, one of Porto’s busiest shopping streets, make sure to stop by Fábrica da Nata.
This is another quite popular and charming bakery that specializes in the classic Portuguese pastel de nata, and it couldn’t be more perfectly located – just steps from the famous Chapel of Souls and Mercado Bolhão. I’m sure you’ll walk past this place!
Their natas are also perfectly creamy in the center and perfectly crisp on the outside, with that perfect sweetness balance!
There’s a hustle-and-bustle energy when you walk in because of its central location, but there’s enough space to grab a seat inside or take your pastries to go. We grabbed a box to go. They not only look good, but also taste delicious!
Location: Fábrica da Nata
5. Nata Lisboa

Nata Lisboa is another well-established brand among pastel de nata pastry shops in Portugal, so if you’re exploring downtown Porto and want some delicious natas, Nata Lisboa is a great choice.
They have two locations on, probably, the busiest streets in Porto – one location is on the Rua de Santa Catarina, just steps from Fábrica da Nata, and the other location (where we went) is on Rua das Flores.
They always have reliably good, high-quality natas with that desirable creamy custard wrapped in crisp, buttery pastry. We stopped by to have some natas during our afternoon stroll through the old town.
You can have them there or grab some to go. If you want some with you while exploring, they also sell boxes, so you can get a bunch of them and keep snacking on pastel de nata throughout the day. Sounds like a plan?
Location: Nata Lisboa (Rua Flores) – Nata Lisboa (Rua Santa Catarina)
6. Nata Sweet Nata

There is another place that specializes in pastéis de nata, and it is Nata Sweet Nata.
Nata Sweet Nata also has two popular cafes where you can order drinks with pastel de nata and even some breakfast options. One of them is in Porto Ribeira right by the Douro River, and the other one is on Rua 31 de Janeiro, closer to São Bento Station.
Both are easy to reach while exploring the city, so you can stop by no matter which part of Porto you’re in. We actually visited both of these spots, just because each day we explored a different area in Porto, so it was more convenient to check them both out!
Their natas are warm, creamy, and just slightly sweet – the kind you could easily eat more than one of. If you visit the one in Cais da Ribeira, you can grab them to go and enjoy them by the river. It is one of the nicest spots in the city for a snack break.
Location: Nata Sweet Nata (Porto Ribeira) – Nata Sweet Nata (Rua 31 de Janeiro)
7. Confeitaria São Domingos

If you’re looking for a more traditional pastel de nata stop in Porto, Confeitaria São Domingos is a classic Portuguese bakery worth including in your nata tour. And it is located right in the heart of Porto!
This café-bakery has a cozy and welcoming atmosphere – locals come here for bread, pastries, and a quick coffee, so it’s not overly touristy.
I found no fault with their pastel de natas. It wasn’t the best Portuguese egg tart I had ever eaten, and it probably was because it wasn’t warm, but it definitely was made right – just look at that perfection in the photos above!
It is also a great place to visit if you want a cheaper breakfast because you can get sweet and savory snacks for much cheaper prices than in those trendy brunch cafes.
I also noticed that they make fresh bread! If you stay in an apartment, you might also want to buy one to take back home and maybe make a sandwich for lunch!
Location: Confeitaria São Domingos
8. Majestic Café

If you want more than just a pastel de nata and are looking for a full historic, atmospheric coffee-shop experience, then Café Majestic is the best place to go!
Café Majestic is one of the most iconic places in Porto. It is located on Rua de Santa Catarina, right in the city center, and is known for its elegant Art Nouveau design.
Yes, it does feel like stepping back in time, because this café opened its doors back in December of 1922!
This café was once a meeting place for intellectuals, writers, and artists who came to debate, drink coffee, and enjoy the atmosphere. Today, it still has its historic charm, but most visitors are tourists who wish to soak in history and enjoy a different kind of breakfast.

I love charming cafés, so of course, we also had to come here for a cup of coffee and pastel de nata. And it was a treat! Our natas were delicious, warm, crunchy, and soft – just like you’d want them!
And the design was stunning. The café boasts a marble façade, carved wood interiors, curved mirrors, as well as my favorites – stucco figures along the walls! It has that quiet luxury feel to it! Yes, prices are higher, but you have to pay for what you get!
I liked this place! Sometimes it’s about the experience, and this will definitely be a unique one! I recommend coming here early, before it gets too crowded, so you can enjoy its charm and lovely morning ambience.

9. Confeitaria do Bolhão

Want to find the locals’ favorite? Confeitaria do Bolhão is the one. This is where wealthy people from Porto used to come and have their breakfast, but now, it seems, all of Porto comes here for breakfast.
Confeitaria do Bolhão bakery and café has been around since 1896, and it is one of the most authentic spots in the city. The interior still holds much of its original charm with old mirrors and vintage décor.
They serve their own baked goods all day, so whether you come in early for coffee and a pastry or later for lunch, there’s always something fresh available.

At Confeitaria do Bolhão, you’ll find bread and all kinds of traditional Portuguese pastries. And their pasteis de natas are a popular choice among locals and travelers alike.
Because it’s such an iconic spot, it can get busy, especially in the mornings. We came early, and even then, we got one of the last available tables inside!
But it was definitely worth it. The place is full of an authentic atmosphere! If you want to truly feel like you’re experiencing a piece of Porto’s history through food, Confeitaria do Bolhão is the perfect place to add to your pastel de nata list.
Location: Confeitaria do Bolhão
10. Padeirinha Doce

If you’re on a hunt for a pastel de nata in Porto with a cozy, local bakery vibe, Padeirinha Doce is a place worth visiting.
The biggest advantage – the bakery opens at 6:30 AM! If you’re fighting jet lag or need an early-morning wake-me-up, this is a great place to go! It is centrally located and easy to reach while exploring Porto’s historic downtown.
This bakery and café are more than just a spot for sweet treats – they make their own bread, cakes, and a wide variety of pastries. Their display is always filled with fresh goods in the morning: croissants, mil-folhas, éclairs, and yes, pastel de nata too.
The bakery isn’t too touristy, so it has a really authentic local feel. We came here in the morning, grabbed a bunch of natas, and off we went exploring the riverside and eating natas with a view of the Douro River. Great times!
Location: Padeirinha Doce
11. Pastelaria Tupi

If you’re exploring downtown Porto and want a pastel de nata spot that’s authentic and full of personality, Pastelaria Tupi is a great choice.
What makes Tupi special is that they offer both regular as well as vegan pastries, including pastel de nata! A great selection of pastries and cozy vibes – what more can you ask for?
They also have some items on the menu. We came here for a quick breakfast and got ourselves some toasts with ham and melted cheese as well as a sandwich with grilled chicken, and of course, pastel de nata.
Because it’s a bit off the beaten path and not overly touristy, Tupi feels like a genuine local bakery. And it opens very early, at 7 AM, which is nice if you wake up earlier because of the time zone change and crave some food. Breakfast here is a good idea!
Location: Pastelaria Tupi
12. Confeitaria Aliança

Another classic Portuguese bakery with real local charm is Confeitaria Aliança.
This bakery has been around for decades and is a well-known pastel de nata cafe among locals. They also offer cold and hot drinks, as well as pastries, sandwiches, toasts, salads, and items on the menu.
Inside, the bakery is cozy and unpretentious – just a place where you can get pastries, bread, and coffee. We stopped by for breakfast, and it was all wonderful and much cheaper than those trendy brunch cafés.
However, my taste buds are easy to please, haha. But, honestly, one of the best things about Confeitaria Aliança is the value you get for the price. Getting a really good pastel de nata and breakfast without spending a fortune is kinda nice, though.
Location: Confeitaria Aliança
