This list includes simple street taco stands as well as regular restaurants and also a bit more upscale places for special occasions (like being on a holiday, haha!).

In this blog post, you will find all the best places for tacos in Tulum with descriptions, photos, and locations on the map, so you can stop searching the internet, quickly choose your favorites, and head out for a delicious meal! Cheers!

1. Taqueria Honorio

Taqueria Honorio is a local legend in Tulum! It got its fame after it appeared on Netflix’s Taco Chronicles in an episode about cochinita pibil tacos but this taco place has kept its reputation thanks to high-quality, delicious, authentic Mexican food!

Whenever we walked past Taqueria Honorio there was a line outside (it moves fast tho). We came here twice and both times were highly satisfied with our meals. The service is quick and they are doing an amazing job with all the crowds they serve every day!

2. Best Tacos Pepe

Best Tacos Pepe is a street food stand in downtown Tulum serving delicious tacos with mouthwatering meat and freshly made tortillas – all right in front of your eyes! It is a popular taco place amongst locals and tourists alike.

Best Tacos Pepe is open in the evenings and you will find this taco stand in the corner of the street. It was very yummy and also very cheap! We got pastor tacos and arrachera tacos. These tacos are as authentic as they can get! Don’t miss this place!

3. La Taqueria

Right across the street from Best Tacos Pepe is one of my favorite places for the best tacos in Tulum – La Taqueria. This one is on the pricier side but sometimes it is exactly what you’re looking for – a really nice place with a nice atmosphere and good food.

In that case, La Taqueria is the perfect place for that! They have a lovely hangout area with tables under trees and they serve tasty drinks and mouthwatering tacos! A pure bomb of flavors!

By the way, this restaurant has many branches – we went to the one in downtown but there are more La Taqueria in the hotel zone as well so make sure to choose the right one for you.

We ordered guacamole, lemonade drinks, and tacos – al pastor for me and arrachera for my husband. Double-check your cheque – they already added a tip to the final sum so make sure that this is what you wish to pay.

4. Tacos Kukulcan

Tacos Kukulcan was a very pleasant surprise for us! It is a rustic local restaurant next to a busy street with a big seating area under the roof. They have an open kitchen so we saw smoke and meat grilling in full swing right as we walked in.

We ordered super juicy and delicious authentic pastor and chorizo tacos accompanied with spicy salsas as well as large guacamole. Portions here are big and we were so full that we couldn’t even finish our food!

5. OLA TACO!

In short – this place is amazing! I am not a fan of fish or seafood at all but I decided to step out of my comfort zone and visit a place that only serves fish or seafood tacos. And, wow, it was amazing!

I can safely say that OLA TACO! serves some of the best fish tacos in Tulum!

I got three different ones and they were very fresh, flavourful, and juicy. We also ordered guacamole which was a real treat. I highly recommend visiting this place if you are nearby!

6. Tacos Many’s Tulum

Tacos Many’s Tulum is a taco stand in Tulum downtown serving fresh and delicious authentic tacos in the evening. The perfect place to go for an evening snack or a quick meal and savor some of the best tacos in Tulum!

Luckily for us, we lived near Tacos Many’s Tulum so we walked there one night. While Many is grilling meat, his coworker takes orders. We got some classic flavors – probably chicken and beef or pork. I don’t remember, haha!

As we got our orders there were different toppings and many salsas that we could add to our tacos – you can add as many as you wish! There were only 2 or 3 tables to sit and they were occupied so I finished my tacos while standing there.

7. Tropi Tacos

I debated whether to go to Tropi Tacos or not but decided to give it a try. This taco restaurant is located just a few feet from the famous Taqueria Honorio and didn’t have the same excellent reviews on Google Maps. But I was wrong to doubt it!

First of all, while Taqueria Honorio is loud and cramped full of people (always!) this place seemed so peaceful and relaxing, haha. But then we got our orders and I was super surprised – tacos were so, so good, authentic, and fresh.

Secondly, they had double tortillas which is always a good sign that this is a good place. Then, thirdly, taco fillings were big and very generous – another good sign that they don’t try to save money by reducing the size of portions. Simple but good!

8. Taqueria La Chiapaneca

Taqueria La Chiapaneca is a legend in Tulum downtown and is favored by locals as a go-to place for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. And, yes, you can get freshly grilled meat tacos in the morning – we went there at 11 AM for tacos!

It is a simple place with simple food and nothing stood out to me here except for cheap prices which is always a great bonus. The food was good overall and if I really wanted to eat at a budget-friendly place, I would definitely come here!

9. El Takazo Jr

El Takazo Jr is a laid-back Mexican restaurant in the heart of Tulum downtown offering tortas, tacos, burritos, quesadillas, gringos, fajitas, and other Mexican dishes. As usual, we opted for guacamole and tacos – our go-to meal!

Tacos were actually very good – not as fresh as those tacos at street food stands that are prepared in front of your eyes but overall this is a great place to go if you’re hungry and want to enjoy Mexican food. We had a great time at El Takazo Jr.

10. TAQUERIA MAYA Tulum

TAQUERIA MAYA Tulum is a small taco place in Tulum downtown favored by locals. Food is very affordable and delicious although this was not amongst my favorite taco spots in Tulum.

Although the taste was great, they served tacos in single tortillas. Sometimes it works great especially if the tortilla is bigger and handmade on the spot but other times those regular tortillas do not hold everything together. And this was the case here.

As they got wet, almost all our tortillas tore apart and we had to use forks to finish our tacos. Despite this, I can recommend this as an authentic place to eat tacos in Tulum!

Happy exploring!

We stayed for four weeks in the hustle and bustle of Tulum exploring everything this famous destination had to offer including the mysterious Mayan ruins, secret cenotes in the jungle, tropical beaches, and the rich local food scene.

Besides our stay in Tulum, we also spent a couple of months traveling around the Yucatán Peninsula, including the states of Yucatán and Quintana Roo, and exploring all the corners of this beautiful peninsula.

From white-sand beaches to dark underground cenotes, and ancient pyramids – there’s just so much to see! I hope you enjoy your time there as much as we did and I hope you get some travel inspiration from this blog post for your travels! Happy travels!
